Does anyone know of any mechanic for a duke to procure a claim on his liege?

Having spent about 4 hours playing as Alexios Komnenos, I'm stumped as to how an ambitious duke can effect an usurpation. Having read the plot file, I see that I can plot for the crown only if I have a claim on it or am a pretender. So how do I get a claim on it? Hopefully without lowering Crown Authority in the process?

Wouldn't fabricate claim work?

Try to invite someone with a claim to your court maybe? Marry into his family via Matrilinear Marriage if at all possible, then kill off the original heirs until only your daughters son remains?

I would go with fabricating claims on 50% of the counties of the Duchy. Take one by one and and Usurp the Duchy when you can.
Matri marriage: sounds good but they may not accept and even if they do, you will need to wait for the heir to be born and stay alive while others in line die - (for me) difficult to wait for or assasinate, fabricating claims much faster.

Seems only to work on county and duchy titles, as far as I can tell from the code.

Try to invite someone with a claim to your court maybe? Marry into his family via Matrilinear Marriage if at all possible, then kill off the original heirs until only your daughters son remains?

I've done the marriage thing, but don't see how that helps my current charachter, even if his children will be emperors. In fact, when I was messing about with this earlier, and killed all the children of Constantine X except some daughter that was Alexios' wife, and then killed her (no children yet, and list of successors for Byzantium was blank), the throne went to Constantine's cousin instead of me.

I'll see where pressing someone else's claim gets me.
