Here's the situation: I'm playing as the Ottoman Empire, and in 1871 I've expanded into Georgia/Armenia, Africa and even America. With all the Great Powers I've good relations, and I'm in an alliance with Germany and Russia. My relations with Russia are about +190, untill they decide to incite nationalism in the Balkan. As a result the previously calm Balkan is now in open rebellion and my relations with Russia took a serious hit. :(

Why doesn't the event, like the Crimean War event has, use triggers to check if TUR and RUS aren't allied and have good relations?

I've no problems with historical events, as long as they've triggers. This one doesn't have any triggers. It just fires somewhere in 1871, even if Russia has been reduced to just St. Petersburg, or in my case, when Russia and the Ottoman Empire are allies.

Allies doesn't always mean friends and if Russia didn't incite rebellion in Balkans some other major power most likely would have. I think it makes sense as at some point an Ottoman empire has to face holding onto large area of christian Europe.

Alternatively, we could have no historical events, and so the Ottoman Empire could stay intact forever without difficulty.

Isn't that the issue with other previous Paradox games? Empires which are a hodgepodge of ethnicities and languages lasting for centuries with no stress when that hardly ever happens in real history? Most empires have started with a small population which dominated others and expanded their rules than collapsed under the weight of their own success and neighboring empires on the rise.
