Obviously Paradox aren't going to give away any specifics of exactly what timetable they use, but what is the general process of developing a game from conception to gold? I assume it's something like

Drunken idea>basic plan drawn up>some sort of research to see if financially viable>very basic mock-up made>green light from boss>production, testing, etc etc>gold

But I could be totally wrong. I've always wondered how it works.

I'd guess that for many game there is a large 'marginal' element where they build upon earlier concepts. It has been some time paradox developed a completely new game. (Though we might hear something interesting in the NY convention).

Well of course, it would be stupid not to adapt good features from previous games, but yeah I mean this thread in relation to new games altogether.

If it's like other endeavours, I would guess at several different ideas coming from 'step 1', above, and then random idea building (more of step 1!) resulting in one or more of the several ideas floating around getting up a "head of steam" that makes people think it could be worth making "real". After that, more serious thought leads to "Step 2" for the "reality candidates".

Man, twice I've hesitated before replying in this thread. Favorite subject of mine Production! So I know I can get pretty long winded if someone doesn't stop me.

But I'll try to do it with fewer words.

The process is very different from game to game..

I just realized you're probably wondering about the internal titles, which I have nothing to do with.

So I'll stop talking right now.

Holler if you're interested in the process for the remaining 85% of Paradox's games.
