OK, so I'm still playing a HoI2 DD 1.1 game as Germany in the GC'36 at N/N. At some point I finished researching the first turbojet-Interceptor (He-162 Volksjager) and assumed my ME-109K Interceptor would be upgraded to this new type...but they didn't

I had the research completed, cancelled the missions my Interceptors were currently engaged in (given the UK the oppurtunity to bomb the shit out of me) and assigned sufficient IC to upgrading. I also made sure my ME-109K's were allowed to upgrade (this new DD option right) hell, I even prioritized them, but nothing happened. Apart from my interceptors there are no other units of any kind that require upgrades at the moment, but in the looking closely into it revealed that there were no IC's required for upgrading at that point, meaning my interceptors weren't being upgraded.

The question is, is this supposed to go down this way. Aren't ME-109K's allowed to be upgraded to HE-162 turbojets to make the game more realistic. In real life a ME-109K is quite different from a HE-162, so to simulate this situation HE-162 can only be newly produced but not upgrade to. Or am I facing some kind of bug here.

you have to research the rocket interceptor in the secret weapon section first cause those two are between the 109k and the volksjäger

I remember the same thing in HoI2. And Rocket IntF have a much shorter range than their predecessors too.
It's why I don't pursue IntF tech, but focus on fighters instead.

It's an artefact of the way that models can only upgrade to the immediately higher model number. INT5 cannot get to INT8 without going via INT6 and INT 7, even if INT6 is technologically equal to INT8... dunno why they didn't fix it in Doomsday by making rocket fighters their own separate model...

I figured it out yesterday. Went on to develope rocket-interceptor in secret weapons section, and after the int-fighters were upgraded to 2nd gen rocket-interceptors they were immediatly thereafter upgraded to HE-162 Salamander, but it was it was more luck then knowlegde that this went down. I still find it rather weird I must say

IMO it would have made more sence if Paradox had made the rocket-interceptors a kind of aircraft class on it's own (like fighters, tac-bombers, strat-bombers etc.) IMO certain secret weapons (such as rocket-interceptors) shoud be optional, so they should'n be totally integrated in the upgrade path of interceptors. Just keep 'em totally detached from regular int-ftr development, so it's up to the player to decide wether he would like to use rocket-interceptor in additions to regular interceptors.

On top of that, keeping the rocket-interceptors as an aircraft-class on it's own, would have made the game a little more realistic IMO, since rocket-interceptors are in terms of technology so totally different from reguler interceptors. Despite it's very limited use in real-life it's a fact that these rocket-interceptors were used totally seperate from regular interceptors. These basic German rocket-interceptors such as ME-163 KOMET were always used/had to be used (due to very limited range) right over the target-area of incoming bombers, whereas the regular interceptors (be if ME-109K, FW-190F, or ME-262 Schwalbe) were mostly used/could be used along the routes of the bombers because they had a greater range. So judging from all this, I think it's fair to say that rocket-interceptors are a kind of aircraft-class on it's own.

But I guess that's just me.

Aye, but then you would be stuck with rocket interceptors which cannot be upgraded but have to be disbanded. And that's a zero sum game really with aircraft - not much point wasting the IC building them in the first place if you can't upgrade them.
