When playing Spain, in 1700 in the Succession wars, Spain is given the choice between siding with France or Austria (event 3173). I chose (ahistorically) Austria and it caused some strange things:
1) Choosing Austria triggers the event in which Spain becomes a vassal of Austria. Why can't I cancel the vassalization right away? Not ever before being anybody's vassal I wouldn't know if that's the case but I thought there is no period in which you would have to wait to cancel it. Also, as I understand, being someone's vassal is supposed to make me unable to offer royal marriages. Well, I still can do that and do that successfully.
2) Choosing Austria is supposed to make historical Austrian kings ruling over Spain in the game. It does. I get Austrian monarchs, all right. Maria Theresia and whatnot. At the _same_ time, I get historical Spanish kings. They just rule simultaneously, or at least that's how it seems in the log and the ledger. I haven't noticed it until 1759 when Fernando died, I lost the HRE title and to my surprise Maria Theresia became one (as a ruler of Austria) though I could swear I remembered her to become my queen some twenty years before. I checked the history log and the old saves and here's what happens in detail:
In the history log:
November 3, 1700 : Felipe V will now rule our glorious nation!
November 25, 1700 : We went with Carlos of Habsburg in The Succession of Carlos II in Spain
November 25, 1700 : Carlos III will now rule our glorious nation!
October 22, 1740 : Maria Theresia will now rule our glorious nation!
July 11, 1746 : Fernando VI will now rule our glorious nation!
August 12, 1759 : Carlos III will now rule our glorious nation!
August 12, 1759 : The Holy Roman Empire has elected Maria Theresia of Austria as emperor.
November 30, 1780 : Josef II rose to the throne in Austria
November 30, 1780 : The Holy Roman Empire has elected Carlos III of Spain as emperor.
November 30, 1780 : Josef II will now rule our glorious nation!
November 30, 1780 : The Holy Roman Empire has elected Josef II of Spain as emperor
In the ledger's monarch listing:
Both sets of monarchs are listed. Each monarch's end date is listed as one in which they historically die (so Maria Theresia for example wouls be listed as 1740-1780, even though in my game she was replaced by Fernando in 1746.
In the monarch information (availabe by clicking on the coat-of-arms in the upper left corner of the screen):
Each monarch is replaced when the new one comes (so I get the skills of Maria Theresia only between 1740 and 1746).
Is this a bug? Does it always happen or did I just have bad luck?
One other thing - though it's most likely not country specific - in January 1765, the same leader, Bernardo Galvez, appeared simultaneosly both in Lombardia and Franche Comte. Same combat values, same name (different ranks, though). I always thought the ability to be in different places at the same time is happens just to some saints, not to military generals
and that the game would somehow be safeguarded against it.
