I've been playing the United States in VIP (first time playing VIP) and things were going well. The Republicans didn't win an election until 1874 though, and I managed to crush the CSA in under a year once they seceded. So the Confederacy decided to head to the hills and fight a resistance war in 'Countrymen Again?' once the end was near.

The problem is that that was over a year ago. Lincoln's Assassination and Reconstruction have not fired yet and I still have plenty of slave pops because the Emancipation Proclamation didn't fire. I thought VIP fixed the ACW problems, so is this just around the corner? Or do I have to download another mod to fix it?

I think that if you won in less than a year slavery would not become the primary issue and consequently emancipation would be delayed.

The biggest problem with post-ACW USA, I find, is that the African-Americans just disappear completely!? They become Yankees, it seems to me. It's that assimilation bonus for the USA tag getting in the way again!

I seem to remember people mentioning making African-Americans a national culture immediately after the ACW, during the reconstruction period, only to be lost later on (and perhaps removing Dixie during this period too, I seem to remember, though this might just create problems with Dixie-cultured POPs assimilating to Yankees instead). Perhaps when they are lost the main parties will get limited citizenship or residence as a policy so that they don't assimilate again, and to highlight their inequality coming about again.

Any thoughts on what to do about this assimilation issue will be greatly appreciated.

What about switching the U.S. a different tag? Give the U.S. the tag of some irrelevant revolter and the unimportant revolter the super-assimilation tag? Would that work?

Too much work, plus the tag does have an understandable purpose (since the engine can't do it alone, there needs to be a hardcoded bonues for the USA tag).

Yeah, the African-American pops sort of disappeared. I assumed they had emigrated to Liberia or something.... And I hate that the Dixies aren't accepted. I have all those pops I can't change.

I thought that the amount of work involved would probably be more than it was worth but I thought that I might as well put the idea out there anyway, incidently why can't the U.S. gain enough immigrants without it? I was always under the impression that they would end up an immigration centre simply because of the value of some of their provinces (or is the advantage of the tag because the immigrants would move to provinces which would not otherwise recieve substantial immigration)?

Ok, I didn't want to create a new thread, I also have a problem with the ACW.
I played as the Union until the war broke out in 1863. Then I switched to the CSA and conquered Washington, Philadelphia and New York in weeks. The event fired to end the war, but whatever I do, I can't get the Cherokee to become my satellite nation. I already reloaded 3 three times, pressured the Cherokee to align with me, demanded all border states in the peace, only a few ones + Indian territory, etc.
I know that the CSA always got the Cherokee when I played another nation, so what happened here? Am I just unlucky and should I just reload a few times? Or is this a bug, possibly due to the later civil war time and I should change the save game or an event to get the Cherokee?

The Confederates got that when they only had a few provinces left. They chose to head to the hills and fight a resistance war.

Then it seems that it is working as designed in that case.
