This Game Stinks!

Man.

I've never played a more frustrating game in my life.

Has anyone ever been able to successfully vassalize another country? I sure haven't. I have met all the criteria and yet the option either remains grayed out, or the other country turns me down over and over and over and over....

The thing that's so idiotic is that the other country is half my size, the same religion, at peace, in an alliance that I initiated, in a royal marriage which I initiated, and has a relationship of 190+, yet I cannot offer them vassalization. They, however, can offer it to me, which I have to turn down, of course, unless I want to become an impotent satellite nation. Tried that one; pretty damn boring. AND THIS IS IN FANTASIA MODE!!

No matter what I do, no matter what I angle I approach it, there is always some stupid reason why I can't vassalize a country. The only way I've ever been able to expand is militarily. This, however, only makes one's life a living hell as the new territory invariably revolts OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER.....well, you get the point.

The same stupid thing happens even when I generate a fantasy scenario. A FANTASY SCENARIO! You know, FANTASY: that which does not reflect historical reality?

Is this game simply designed to drive crazy any idiot who forked over the dough for this thing?

Well, I'm going to go use this disk for skeet practice, now.

Been a business doing pleasure with you all.

p.s. If you feel like flaming, go ahead. I'm sure you'll find it very pleasurable. Some helpful feedback might also be welcome, however. This is, of course, assuming there is anyone out there who is capable of providing such....

Bah, it should be enough for you to know that many people considers diplo-vassaliztion+diplo-annexations too easy, almost to the level of exploit :p. So be patiente, you will learn the tricks soon :)

well, Its not bvery easy to diplovassalize another country.

you said that the option was greyed out, and that the other country offers you vassalization. That measn the country in question is considered the strongest of you two. You need to expand you economy, either by gaining more provinces or by increasing your trade income.(the province part is by far the easiest:D)

My general advice would be to try and play france in 1492. That nation is very strong compared to its neighbours so if you mess up it won't hurt as much as if you are playing a very small country.

The revolt system has been tweaked in the latest updates, so the are fewer revolts, but those that happen are much stronger.

and you will find that noone here is interested in flaming you as much as helping you, since we all re sucha friendly bunch here...:)

So just try and play again and come here with your questions, they will be answered very shortly...

Also .. some consider the fact of having large armies positioned at the border of the country you're about to vassalize a factor that increases the chances. (though i havent seen any proof for this) But having a large army makes you more powerful in their eyes therefore increasing the chances for a vassalization.

Also .. dont play the fantasy scenario.. its utter crap
This game is intended to be a historical simulation game, therefore the 1419 and 1492 scenarios are much better choices. Probably the easiest choice would be france in 1492 as Kurtbrian said. No nasty events iirc, lots of good leaders and monarchs etc. A nice way to get started.

and once you have learned the BB rules, try ottomans in -92.. from steiermark (austria is a 2 provincer) to baghdad by 1520 and only 18 BB points ;)

Even venice is taken down :D

Alternatively a muscovvy in 1492.. but i prefer to get all those lithuania & GH corevents asap.. as you have waay too mny troops at star.. and lithuania is just the perfect target :D
GH next and by 1530.. siberia should be open!
Screw history, its funner this way :D

That would indeed be a modern myth. Only total army-size counts, along with income, size, the respective monarchs DIP-rating, stability and BB. It all adds up. Many people seem to favour force-vassaliztion. You´ll need +70% war-score and occupy the capital. Then just wait 30 years and it is done.

Also, what patch are you playing? I think 1.07 without Betas annoyed me to no end with the massive amount of rebels. Apply the Betas on the 1.07 patch!!! It makes the game a lot more fun.

This game is very complicated but very rewarding. I've been playing for a long time and still learn new things, mostly by coming to these boards. Everyone pratically trips over one another to help out.

You can get the newest patch here
and the newest beta here

Fantasia can be fun, but really isn't the best way to play. France in 1492 is strong and you can dabble in colonization too if you want.

Who in god's name plays Fantasia? Boring as hell...when you have so many historical scenarios....?

Ever heard the expression "you catch more flies with honey?" In this forum you won't get flamed if you post reasonable questions and treat others with a reasonable amount of respect. Posting thread titles like "this game sucks" or thread content phrased the way you did your above post is not generally the best way to get positive feedback or help. Perhaps you could consider future thread titles like "Help! - Can't diploannex or diplo-vassalize" and then go on to describe the situation and ask if anyone's got any suggestions. I know I'd certainly react more positively to it.

As to the question you asked, most of the above advice should be of help to you. Patience is also definitely a virtue when it comes to vassalization and diploannexation. I've found it very hard to diploannex immediately after the ten year waiting period has elapsed unless I'm vastly larger and more powerful than the target country (i.e. I'm a 30+ province major annexing a 1 province minor) but after 30+ years it seems more inclined to accept. As the above posters have also pointed out, having a much larger army and strong economy at the time you offer it will greatly increase your odds.

Is there any chance that when the option to ask them was greyed out the vassal was at war with someone? Remember you must both be at peace for vassalization or diploannexation to be possible.

I agree with the other posters as well that you should try your hand at one of the campaign games rather than the Fantasia scenario. It's considerably more interesting and I think you'll find the pace of the game to be far more fun.

Above all, keep at it for a while and I suspect you'll find that this is a much better game than you originally thought.

I agree. Fantasia is THE most boring way of playing EU2. It doesn't get worse than that in SP.

Well, some people actually enjoy it to the exclusion of historical scenarios.

Not me, but I have read posts from people who prefer fantasia and more power to them.

I think it would be nice to be told what percent chance a vassalization offer would have of success prior to its being made. It wouldn't have to be exact, maybe within 10 percentage points of the actual chance to add some fog of war.
