In my recent game with Russia I was attacked by Turkey. I snatch 2 provinces along the black sea with my border armies, n my polish ally took Podolia. I have 5 stars n only demand that Turkey cedes Podolia to Poland (this will give me a nice, defensible natural border. Turkey REFUSES! I take two more Turkish provs, now have 6 stars but Turkey still refuses. I eventually go for a white peace.

Thinking of it Ive never managed to get the AI to give my allies a prov no matter how many stars I have. Has anyone else noticed this?

Perhaps the AI doesnt get a stability hit when given an aqcceptable peace to an ai nation (or acceptable peace to an ai nation that was negotiated by a human player).

Yeah, I've seen that. I asked for my defeated enemy to give one of my minor allies a province (don't remember which) just to see if relations to my ally improved. The AI accepted, and relations improved.

Leaving four yellow stars in peace negotiations is like making the AI an offer it cannot refuse. Anything less than four stars and the AI has the option to hold out for a better deal.

But remember that the AI has an Automatic/invisable star in peace negotiations. When you think you are negotiating a five star peace you are, in reality, negotiating a four star peace. Ask for one province and you no longer have four remaining stars. The AI can refuse the offer.

Opposite problem

I've had the opposite problem. I'm playing Spain in the GC and I got tired of the revolts in the Netherlands and I wanted to concentrate on the new world. So when Holland attacked I let them take anything and everything they wanted. They took all the provinces exept Haunait, I offered them Artois for peace, they refused. I offered them Artois and Flanders for peace and they refused. I was about to offer them three provinces for peace when the offered me 150 ducats if I made peace:confused:. With AI like this who needs an army;)

The diplo rating of your king is decesive when making peace. But what really annoys me is that the colonies make for only one star or less at negotiation table, which make colony wars an ugly prospect.

Help needed!
I need someone to uninstall EU from my hard drive!
Please...... somebody, anybody........
(after that, please get me banned from this forum)
Try this one: DataDoctorn. Actually it's about defragmenting, and in swedish, but pictures are ... revealing. You can be sure, that EU
will not reside on your harddrive afterwards...

Huh? This is totally new to me. Where did you hear that?

No worries EoE. It was one of the first threads I read back around the NA release (April or earlier). In the early version of the Game players would offer the AI a white peace, or simply buy the AI off with a tribute before a shot had been fired.

In a subsequent patch the programmers gave the AI what amounts to an invisible star in peace negotiations to prevent this kind of play. Now this has had a substantial impact on the game.

It means that during a war, Ethiopia and every other pip-squeak nation "demands" 200d from you even though they are on the other side of the world and have not taken a single province, TP, colony, or won a single battle. (Don't tell me you never wondered why some AI nations were making these laughable demands for 200d?)

It also means that you must take three provinces in order to gain two in peace negotiations. Or, you must sack the AI's capitol in order to take three provinces. Sacking the capitol erases the AI free star. It also means there is a lot of capitol sacking going on.

Sorry I couldn't find the actual thread. If you dug through some of the posts from six months ago you might find it.

Well, I always thought they were quite silly to fight me in the first place :D

Nah, that explains quite a lot actually. Yesterday I fired the IGC up again as Austria, and I couldn't understand why those stubborn Turks wouldn't accept my perfectly reasonable offer. Guess this is the explanation.

Thanks a lot - I'll send John Wayne packing :D

I think it doesn't cheat here!
The game said you can earn 3 stars max from winning battles, and 3 stars max from controling provice, capital province + 1 star. If you demand 4 stars less, it will be a sure peace.

So if you gain 5 stars, the only sure thing is you get 250d.

If you gain 6 stars (very rare), you can have only one province or colony for sure. If you want more, perhap you may wait for the AI to offer you!

And I see some AI like Turkey is very greedy. It demands all you can give, and will not accept peaces easy like the others, except when you go for the 4 stars less rule.

The AI also gets nervous if wars drag on. I had a game as Spain where the Palatinat took three provinces in the Netherlands from me during the course of 2 years. They demanded Luxembourg, Hainaut, Artois, and 250g. This is proof they have an extra star because that is 7 stars and they dont own all of my territory. I refused. The next day, I offered them white peace and they accepted. This was on Very Hard/Furious. What fools!
