Problems creating Italy

Hello,
I have decided to let Venice become Italy in EU2 (after having conquered all the Italian provinces), but there is a big problem I can't understand :
I have written an event for Venice that makes it become Italy (with the tag ITA); of course I have also created a shield and a flag for it, and I have inserted it everywhere I could find the tag VEN. When I tried the event, first it worked without problems, but exactly one month after I had sent my merchants to a cot (i.e. the day when I should see whether they have success or not) the game stops, the screen gets black and an error-message from windows appears to tell me that the game didn't work.
What have I done wrong? Can you help me?? Thanks.

have you tried saving and loading right after you become italy?
AGCEEP at least recommends to save and load after every tag switch or else it might cause erratic game behaviour.

Always save and reload after a tag switch.

hmm. . .I didn't know this. There isn't a work around? Does this apply to tag switches in vanilla?

It is for EU2 with or without mod.
