Hi, I'm not sure where to place this post but I'll post it here, if it's in the wrong place just move it please.

Hi, My brother just moved to his new apartment so he got a computer who's mainly for work and not for games, he got Rome's demo and he wants to buy the full game, the problem is that the game works really slowly and it's quite strange because graphics doesn't play a roll in this game, Need for speed most wanted works really good so there is a chance to change the quality of the game or the problem is with the computer?

As far a I remember he got geforce 6200 on his computer.

1400 Mhz not good..512 ram maybe..double it at least..this game requires ram and cpu more than graphic card . I got 3000 Mhz and 512 ram. Game opens load nearly 5 minutes but I got smooth map on strategic map.

I hope that's a desktop and not a laptop, and I hope he's running XP and not Vista. Then again if it were a laptop running Vista, I doubt that the thing would boot in under 2 hours.

Memory is probably your major concern there I think.

Though he meant the processor speed, not the RAM speed, and I don't think AMD Sempron comes in a 1400mhz variety (unless it's an old processor).

He got a desktop not a laptop. I just can't get it, why it doesn't work maybe as you said, the problem is with the memory.

The problem is that the computers terrible. ; ) Very weak cpu and intergrated graphics if i remember correctly.

If you want a chance of running the game on this system Im throw in some more RAM to bring it up to at least a gig, and maybe a very cheap dedicated graphics card. I couldnt tell you if you can upgrade the Sempron because Im not familar with AMD systems.

Best thing to do imo would be to knock together a cheap core2duo system which would deal with anything he wanted to throw at it.

Also straying ot to comment on something someone said about Vista. Vista is the best OS I've ever used heh, and Ive got it running on my lappy without any issues.

Building a cheap system to run Rome????

.

Give me an idea of what you'd call a "cheap core 2 due system" (include the specific hardware you would use).

I'm running a 2.8 Ghz Pentium 4, 3 gig RAM and a Nvidia FX5200 with 128 MB (and all drivers updated, all other programs closed while running Rome) and it boots fine, but the mouse lags about 3 seconds before I can click anything. VERY FRUSTRATING!!

So I'm thinking of building a cheap (< $1000 US) system myself - your suggestions would be appreciated.

Ahh Im from the uk so Im not sure of pricing but I could knock together a system with a

core 2 duo

2 gig of ram

160 gig hd

and a 8800gt

for about £350 which is about $700.

If you wanted I could check out US sites (I believe newegg is one) and spec up a system for you.

Heres a really cheap system I looked up.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128334 Motherboard

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116063 Processor

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145015 Ram

I couldnt point you towards a specific make of graphics card but the 9600gt is excellent for lower resolutions (1280 1024 and lower) and the 8800gt for anything higher. Each should be under $200 and will have you running the lastest games on high settings for donkeys.

Power supply.

Thats a good starting point, idk how much you wanted for storage. With the above out the box you'd have a good system, overlcock the processor and you've got a beast.

Having built a number of systems myself, I really, really wouldn't recommend Corsair power supplies. Their not very reliable, nor is their voltage stable. Antec is a much better brand, and this one the same price as the Corsair:

I use this one myself, and you should see the readings on this sucker, it's stable and reliable as anything made. Other than that you're good, I use Gigabyte MBs exclusively now (after 2 bad experiences with ASUS ), Corsair memory is second only to Kingston in my mind (and that's a nice price), and of course you can't go wrong with a current Intel proc.
