So I was playing as Venice & I conquered the entire coastline from Constantinople to Zanzibar. Upon doing do so I could no longer have a trade company in the East African Charter due to the counties no longer counting as overseas (0% autonomy instead of 75%). If I sold one county on the East African coast to break the chain they became overseas territories again and could be made into trade companies.

Don't know if this is intended or not, I guess it's not something that happens often, but just seemed kinda strange to me. I have a feeling this is why there are gaps on the West African coast that you cannot colonise otherwise you could end up in a similar situation as Portugal / Castile.

from the patch note
- Overseas provinces now have a minimum autonomy of 75% instead of the 'distant overseas' penalty
- All colonized provinces now have a minimum autonomy of 50% unless the owner is a Colonial Nation or former Colonial Nation

it seems like a bug, because it doesn't matter if you have continuity between your lands: if a province is in another continent should be always have 75% autonomy if they are conquered or 50% if they are colonized (CNs are different). So in your game you should still have 75 autonomy in all your african and asian province (if you kept Venice as capital).

This is not true. If you have a land connection to your capital, no matter the continent, the province is not distant overseas.

That seems to be how it is although I'm not sure its intended going by the patch notes he linked. I mean even if you start as a N. American tribe your provinces still have 50% min autonomy (recently had to edit this in the lua file because it seemed ridiculous to me). Seems to be an anomaly with being connected to Europe.

The floor Local Autonomy only applies to provinces that has been a colony or distant overseas. So, if a colony is distant overseas the LA floor is 75%, if a former colony have a land connection to your capital, the LA floor is 50%. But, there is no colony on the coastline from Constantinople to Zanzibar, and you have no LA floor.

Continuity with your lands does matter, and him having 0% autonomy in East Africa is legitimate and not a bug.

The minimum autonomy level is for colonies. East Africa is populated mostly with existing nations, so as long as he has a line of provinces from Venice, through the Middle East and Arabia and Egypt to East Africa, he can have all those provinces at 0% autonomy. He could conquer into India and China the same way and get full autonomy there too. But if he were to colonize the empty parts of Africa or Siberia, those would have 50% autonomy minimum.

Ah yes I just checked my land there was conquered after all. There is one piece of land you can colonise but it probably would have 50% even if connected. The autonomy wasn't the annoyance, the problem was not being able to turn provinces that are 0% autonomy into trading companies but I guess it is scripted like that. The land went from 75% to 0% purely via the connection which subsequently caused me to lose my merchant from the bonus, didn't realise for a while either >.<
