Me; US, Axis member. Liberia allied puppet.

I have begun taking over west africa for Liberia but have some units out of supply.

1. Do those units drain Liberias supply?

2. Is it impossible to create convoys to provinces you do not own?

3. (Assuming 1 and 2 are true) If I give Liberia supply via the diplomacy option how much (% of given) do they get (all?)?

4. Does 3 help my units in Africa?

5. Any other ways?

I'm not a true expert, but let me try:

1)yes

2)yes

3)depends on your and their trade efficiency

4)yes

5)you can also trade with them. make them an offer they can't refuse, like 30 supplies a day for nothing in return.

Is that something you can se when making the deal, like when setting up a trade? Is that the same efficiency you have when trading resourses?

Edit: Good idea trading them resourses for free, is there any way I can se how much supplies they have? (so I know how much they need)

yup - you have to trade with the country.....

nope - depending on the efficiency of the trade - you can see that in the diplo screen

Frankly the convoy system in HOI1 where you could click on the map and find the port you want to send things to was SO MUCH clearer... As the UK in HOI2 I was totally lost with all the little islands. How am I supposed to remember all the names  ?

Do not attack from Liberia's territory make your own desant in Africa so the territory will be counted as yours, and u will be able to send convoys with oil/supplies there - the best solution i belive.

But, that so booooring ;)

Or, maybe I will only need one province there. Then when I am in allied territory in Africa I'll draw supply from that province? (one can hope at least...)

Remember that you don't have to, I've played the game quite a lot already and have never dared to shift the convoys to be handled manually. The AI is just simply better when circumstances aren't too weird and you can focus on other parts of the game.

I would like it if it could work more like the automatic leaders, that I would be able to create/change a convoy without turning the ai handling off. That way I could just increase the # of ships to get more supplies and still be sure that everything else was taken care of.

I'm beginning to dislike this inability to make convoys to wherever you want, does someone know what to do when in Vichy african territory and no Vichy path to the Mediterranean (ergo; no Vichy supplies?). And why should the US (me) want to create a convoy to a Vichy territory even though we have troops there.

Please tell me there is something I have missed :(

the issue is that I am attacking a terrain and I want to pack a lot of convoys into the teritory + with a lot of escorts. By the time I find the bloomin place in the list of names I feel frustrated... It was SO easy to pick it off a map. IMO its a downgrade of HOI2. They could leave the AI of course but still that you get to choose of a map not a list of tens of names... I dont think I want to play japan...

Furthermore the AI only sends a convoy 24 hrs after it detects that supplies are needed - thus in the first day you are out of supplies anyways.

Just my 2 cents.

That looks like special circumstances that were not thought of during development.

Doesn't sound good then, choosing from the map is possible with missions so it should for consistency be with convoys as well. A possible reason to why it's a bit cumbersome might be most betas using the AI for this so it didn't bother people enough to have leverage to change it.

Guess I'll just play Germany then. But would be nice to be able to have more control if you want.

In other things noticed; Gibraltar have no beach any more, sometimes it is not good to be a veteran HoI player ;)

Edit: And don't forget to attach planes to your brand new carrier!!!

More control means more micromanagement. Playing MP becomes difficult etc. The game is in the end about fighting a war as entertainment, designing it for control freaks would alienate everyone else. ATM the player has some choice and the AI does the heavy lifting, which is IMO fine. Obviously improvements can be made in how attacks through allies or puppets are handled, but trade works as a convoy ATM.

The option of more control does not mean more micromanagement. Personally I love the automatic convoys, but the option of being able to create a convoy to an allied territory is not something that would mean more micro. If that was the case, then the option of being able to handle all convoys myself would mean more micro. It's all about options, automatic is fine, as long as it works, but give me the means of doing it myself when it does not work!

Obviously improvements can be made in how attacks through allies or puppets are handled, but trade works as a convoy ATM.

Obviously, from my own experience, trade does not work as a convoy ATM. Granted, trade works as a convoy most of the time but it makes for some strange/annoying potentially gamebreaking situations when it doesn't.

You can assign convoys manually if you want to. Just switch off the AI assignments. Trade is an imperfect solution to the ally/puppet thing, but unless something is changed its the only one, unless you work around it somehow.

yes, but the problem is that it is a "all or nothing" scenario. There are workarounds like making a super convoy that fills up a supply depot and after that giving back control to AI, but that is imperfect.
