Hi there,

I'm playing HOI Platinum (patched to 1.06c) as Germany, in the 1936 scenario, and have encountered the following:

After my DOW in Poland on 25/08/39 07:00 (= after the Ribbentrop-Molotov agreement), I cannot get my landforces to attack on 26/08, not even on 27/08. Eventhough my forces are massed up against the Polish borders, fully supplied and at max. organisation, they aren't able to start their attack before, say 04/09 (And the weather in the whole area is good).
Some landforces, notably the Panzers and MechInf units, will attack a little sooner, but still take about 4 days to get moving. My Luftwaffe is eager enough to start their attack on 25/08, no problem with that.
When I try to use the C.C.B. (Combat Coördination Box), the date changes when I move from airunits to landunits.
I noticed the same problem when playing the WAR-part of the tutorial.

Can anyone tell me whether this is a bug, or are there other factors which I have to take into account.

Thanks in advance !

In HOI I, armies move into a province first before engaging the enemy. So dependant on the distance to the other province, movementmodifiers because of terrain and weather, the speed of your units and the fact that it takes longer to move into enemy territory it will take them a couple of days before they actually start fighting. In short, no it's not a bug.

Because of all these variables, the time to reach another province can change significantly between the various provinces, but because the CCB "remembers" the last date it will show that one. You can manually reset the time to an earlier date if possible, although I personally prefer to attack at the same time and date at various positions along the front so it makes it harder to move reserves around. Since aircraft are much faster than landunits they can attack inmediately and you can use them to soften up the defenses before the groundforces engage.

A final note, if you wait a couple of days after the signing of the MR-Pact there is an event that may lead to a war with Poland as well, but you also get 3 additional national provinces, although it may be possible ( a 5% chance) that Poland cedes those provinces without going to war :) .

Edit; and welcome to the forums BTW.

OK, thanks for the info !
Still I think it's odd that you can't follow up a DOW with a quick landassault.
After all, this would be a better representation of the way war was waged in that time. Hopefully HOI 2 will deal better with this topic :)

In previous variants it was somewhat quicker because there was no penalty for moving into enemy provinces, but it's just something to get used to :) .

And HOI II certainly handles it differently, you attack first, and then you move into the province :D .
