I got EU II on release day, and really like -- as compared to EU 1, it's quite stable and the new features are quite nice. I can play fine till the patch comes out.

But I'm having problems with alliances. Basicaly, I can't seem to join! I started the Grand Campaign and picked Austria. The game starts with Hungary as leader of a alliance and having good relations with Austria, and Austria is not in a alliance. But it would'nt let me propose a alliance! The game says I need to aproach Hungary as Hungary is the leader of the alliance. WTF? I AM aproaching Hungary! Some other nations, which I had good relations with, also refused to let me tender alliance offers.

Then I tried Castile, and had the same problem with friendly nations.

What's going on here?

EDIT: I waited FIVE game years to see if I could have the option to offer those nations alliances, as both Austria and Castile. The option never showed. I also did'nt see mention that this 'bug' is fixed in the upcoming patch.

You and several others have posted about this. I've just made a post to the beta forum "general release bug" thread about this. We will get an answer on this.

There seem to be a lot of diplomacy problems in the offical release. I know that the 1.01 patch will address some of these.

Thanks for the reply......

Thanks for responding. Yes, please DO let me know what you hear from them. It's very annoying -- and the only serious bug I found so far. The others are small and can be overlooked.

Kudos to Paradox for their wonderfull support.

I'm really envious of the beta testers, having a better version then us..... :)

The same thing happened when I was fooling around with the American Revolution scenario last night; I sent a diplomat to France to see about joining the French-led alliance, and the join button was greyed out. Hover-tip said I had to talk to the French...well duh!

I managed to chase the British out of North America by 1776 anyways, despite those Swedish allies the Brits invited in. Yep, I got to fight Swedes rather than Hessens! :)

usually as Austria I have no trouble creating an alliance with Bavaria then Wurthemburg then Helvetia.

the alliance thing has been redone a bit, there shoudn't be any Swedish-Turkish alliances anymore like there was in EU1, it should have more emphasis on alliance members being close to each other geographically.

This is definiately resolved in beta patches. In fact, it might have swung a bit too far in being prefereential for direct contact. For example, Austria has trouble getting ana llaince with Ragusa depiste a pretty obvious common foe in 1617.
