In the start-up screen, rather than being able to select any mods or DLC to start up, I instead get white boxes. The main image for the screen is also surrounded by white on the bottom and right sides, which makes me think this might be a display issue. I'm running a nVidia GT650M SLI set-up on Windows 8, and using version 1.103 of the game.

I've already tried re-downloading the entire game, and I'd really like to be able to try out the rest of the game. Thanks for any help!

Hello Andren,

I don't think this is a display issue, but a more common issue we've seen on a newly installed system.

Please do the following:
First, run Visual C++ 2010.
Second, run Visual C++ 2010 SP1.
Third, run the DirectX (web) installer.
When that is done, go to Windows Update and make sure you have downloaded all .NET updates Windows Update shows you.

Hi IcratoX,
Thanks for your input, but I'm not sure that it's fixed my problem. Running vcredist_x86 says that "A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine", as does vcredist_x64. dotNetFx40_Client_setup says that "Microsoft.NET Framework 4 is already a part of this operating system", and that a "Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 Client Profile has already been installed on this computer." Running dxwebsetup says "DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary." Please keep in mind that I've only run these programs, so if there's one that I'm missing please let me know.

Again, thanks for your help with this issue, and I hope that I could get just a bit more to solve it.

Alright,

That says a bit more than just the white boxes :) Normally the problem with the white boxes is solved with 1 or more of the above 3 installers + windows update.

Please try running Microsoft .NET framework repair tool, after that make sure you go to windows update, check for updates and then download all .NET updates it gives you.

Also, are you the game running on Steam? If the above solution did not work, then you can go to your '..\Steam\SteamApps\common\Crusader Kings II\' . If I'm right you should find a folder called "_CommonRedist", open that folder and go to the DotNet folder > 3.5 Client Profile and run the installer inside that folder. After this the same counts as above, make sure you go to Windows update, then select "Check for Updates" and install all .NET updates it gives you.
This only applies to the Steam version, as the Gamersgate version does not have this _CommonRedist folder in it's install directory.
