Problem after a new patch.

I recently installed the 1.09 patch for crusader kings II and am having some problems. Previously i used to play the v1.00. Since i hate to give my titles to my vassals and always prefer a centralized gameplay I increase my stewardship skill to a certain amount which allows me to have a much larger demesne size. Since all the possible modification in the defines.lua file will also affect other character I prefer increasing the skill level of my character. But after installing the 1.09 patch, whenever i load older saves or try to increase a character's stewardship or any of the other skills above 150, it just goes back to zero. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What can I do to correct this problem?
