I believe that the lucky countries are fixed for each new game you start, so if you load a save game, the same countries should be lucky as before you saved and quit, correct?

What happens if you load an existing save game as one of the lucky countries? I assume it would cease to be lucky, correct since its now controlled by you, the player?

Good question. There is two ways this "luck-tag" could change, right? Either it just switches to the country you were playing, or it makes another check on techgoup and rich provinces (which presumably have changed since gamestart) to select whatever country.

Your numbers seem to be wrong in parts. The second column only adds up to 37, while the last adds up to 41. It should be 40 in all cases, shouldn't it?

Then this luck factor is extremely annoying. I spent 70 years trying to fight off an evergrowing Ottoman Empire as Hungary without success, until I checked the save and noticed, they were lucky, along with Austria, Lithuania, Poland and Venice. What a nice surprise ...

Right now I'm playing Lorraine from 1453 on, and I'm facing a lucky France, Burgundy and Austria, also England, Aragon, Castille and Persia are lucky and finally there is a lucky Ottoman Empire, which is eating it's way through Italy, scaring me more with every year.
Looks like lucky nations concentrate on the player's country's region of the world. That should be changed in some way to make them appear more random. Right now it's impossible to play as a smaller country. At least for a mediocre player like me.

Well, even for an old EU I vet, it can be hard. When my armies with 10,000/10,000/5,000 are being chewed up by technologically inferior armies of 3,000/7,000/0, (with something like losses of 24,000 to 800), you know that you are in for a rough war. :)

The only solution in that case is to try to avoid going to war unless your lucky enemy is currently engaged in a war against other nations, which may make it possible for you to swoop in and take out a few provinces before your enemy can divert troops in your direction...

Of course, if you are the defender in a war against a lucky enemy, your only hope (or at least the only strategy that has been successful for me thus far) is that to have a good general, and to avoid his army stacks that have generals and concentrate on recapturing your provinces and fighting his leaderless stacks...

Is this also why I get crappy monarchs as Castille? It's 1495 (start 1453) and I have yet to have anyone over a 5 in any category, most are 3s! Sending gifts to other nations is just a waste of money. I have force vassalized like 5 countries (including the OE) and am at like 87% prestige. And have like 2 landtech and am nowhere even close to getting a second idea (I'm like at gov 2 despite heavy investment). Other latin countries are around 6 or 7 now. Aragon won't vassalize because of my crappy dip rating so no Spain in the future either. Is this how it will always be in SP, just crappy monarch, after crappy monarch.

Sorry, rant over.

I really like the Lucky idea - but one thing I think was overlooked. If both
Aragon and Castille...or France and Burgundy...are lucky in the same game,
they're likely to cancel each other out, with the end result being none of
those countries end up as strong in the game as they did IRL...which sorta
defeats the whole Lucky purpose.

For 1.2 it'd be nice to see some mutual-exclusions like those...so only one
half of what would be France or Spain, can be Lucky in a given game.
