-I really like the privateering mechaninc, but I don`t think I`ve ever seen the AI actually use it. Also, there should be some ideas that make it possible to actually turn a hefty profit from privateering. It seems having this as a Berber cultural tradition makes the most sense. This is the time in history when the Mediterrainian was terrorized by the Barbary corsairs, and there really isn`t anything in the game to represent that. The Berber states put a huge dent in Spain`s economy. Maybe it could trigger after the Reconquista.
-Allow Hordes to use their cavalry as a sort of "Land Privateer." This time period covers the "Harvest of the Steppe," when the Crimean Khanate made a fortune raiding the Ukraine for slaves for the Ottoman slave markets.
-The developers have done a good job curtailing the ridiculous "Cascading Alliances" problem, but even now I can`t seem to pick a fight without dragging in whole power-blocs, and WWI seems to happen every 10 years or so. It really undermines the idea of the limited objective warfare encouraged by the different types of casus beli. Maybe an ally`s likelihood of answering a Call to Arms could be tied more closely to the type of Casus Beli. Maybe the declarant could specifically state the war-goal as part of the declaration, and an ally`s likelihood of answering could partially depend on the agressor`s goals.
-Nations should be more reluctant to allow military access. Having foreign troops march through your territory undermines your sovereignty, even if they are not hostile. Also, military access seems to have gotten weird since Common Sense. I seem to get automatic military access randomly when I declare war. This is distressing. What`s the point of having buffer states or strategically placed forts if an enemy can freely walk around them?
-More nuanced peace deals. Maybe give-and-take options, making concessions to the defeated enemy to lower the peace value, or even the aggressive expansion. Like offering ducats for conquered provinces, creating the pretense of "Buying." Or, renouncing claims on some provinces while claiming others. More long-term treaty options, such as demanding demilitarization. The defeated is forced to keep his army/navy/both at bellow half force-limits.
