The recent police operation in farpoint and the death of one Lt. Henson lead to a dreaded atmosphere around the US Embassy in the Capital. A destructive hurricane and secession of the provinces certainly added to the misery further, but the return of the new Ambassador seems to alleviate the smog a bit.

Notifications of arrivals of the New Ambassador and request to present his credential to the President of Eutopia were sent to the MTIA.

[OOC: Please be reminded that only members of the diplomatic community including staff of other embassy, Officials of MTIA and people who need consular services are allowed to post in this thread. ]

New US Ambassador Presents Credentials, vows 'Historical Friendship'

During the credential presentation ceremony, the new U.S. Ambassador, to Eutopia, Dr. Asimov Yim reaffirmed 'historial friendship between the two great nations' and vowed to 'bridge the gap developed during some unfortunate incidents'.

In his meeting with President Al'Aeshir, the new Ambassador voiced US's concern about Eutopia's efforts in fighting the war against terrorism and said it is indicative of the country's desire to work for peace and stability. "We want to help Eutopia in the fight against terrorism and oppression, the success of which is so critical to the welfare of your people," the Ambassador added.

Furthermore, the Ambassador also commented on the infrastructure destruction caused by the hurricane."With the hurricane gone and a new, energetic government established alone the line of democratic principles, the US people and government want to work with the Eutopians in rebuilding this beautiful country, assisting with infrastructure reconstructions and other economic developments."

A note arrives.

Ambassador Yim:

As Eutopia's representative to the United States, I look forward to working closely with you for our common goal - improving relations between our two countries. To that end, please feel free to contact me at any time. My direct line at the embassy is (202) 555-0281.

As soon as possible, I hope we can arrange for the Eutopian President to visit Washington, and for the American President to visit Eutopia City. Do you feel your administration would support such a visit?

With regards,

/s/Lucien Napier

[MTIA Staff: Please forward this note to the Eutopia Embassy in DC. Thanks.
Dr. Asimov Yim, US Embassy, Eutopia City.]

Ambassador Napier:
I am glad to cooperate with you in the normalization of the relationship between two countries. My direct line at the embassy is (852) 237-6343. Please feel free to call me at any time.

As for the mutual visit between Head of the State, the current political atmosphere in DC is a bit tense with regard to Eutopia due to some members of the legislature. However, a icebreaking trip leaded by the Eutopia Foreign Minister to the States would be beneficial and should prompt a visit to UPE by the Secretary of State. I personally think that we should start from small things first, and leap through the hurdles one by one.

With regards,
Dr. Asimov Yim

[Since this note concerns the Minister of Trade and International Affairs, he has taken the liberty of responding to it.]

Ambassador Yim,

I would be quite honored to make a brief 'icebreaking trip' to the United States; hopefully it will prove more fruitful than my last visit. My schedule is rather flexible, although early October would prove best for me. I trust that you will arrange all necessary travel arrangements, as a matter of protocol.

On a different note, you mentioned earlier the topic of the United States providing assistance in repairing the infrastructure destroyed by Mother Nature this hurricane season. Do you have any more specifics at this time on this matter. We would be much obliged for any assistance you do provide, although we understand that the United States has not been without her own troubles in the hurricane department.

Sincerely,
Prof. P.G. Talbott

Ambassador Yim,

I hope you are settling back in to your office. I was honored to fill in during your absence. I hope that you have more success than I did. Political instability derailed much of the potential progress we were seeing under the Langley administration.

Most disappointing, obviously, was the disintegration of the country under President Gall. While this fragmentation does not bode well for US policy it also served to overshadow other issues of importance to our government.

Specifically, our 50 year lease on the naval base at Farpoint expired. We are now, under the terms of the agreement, on an automatically renewing year-to-year basis. That is, if no action takes place, we simply keep the base rights. However at any time we, or the Eutopians, can announce notice to sever ties or to renegotiate the treaty.

This treaty, signed after WWII, is full of strange language and I'm sure some of the terms will seem puzzling at best. I know that you are qualified to handle the situation in the best interests of the United States, but I did want to alert you to the current treaty status as it seems to have been completely neglected by Gall and his Vice-President.

Best of luck, ambassador! I am happy to be returning stateside for a new assignment!

Sincerely,

Former US Ambassador to Eutopia
Mr. Bosley Maun

A note arrives:

Ambassador Yim, as per the directives of the Eutopian government, I am closing the Eutopian Embassy in Washington. I shall be conducting ambassadorial duties through your embassy. Upon my return to Eutopia, perhaps we can sit down and discuss the pressing issues that face our nation.

/s/Ambassador Lucien Napier

The three US Senators, Blowerd, Clarke, and Bendi, arrive and greet the ambassador. After settling into their accommodations within the embassy they meet with him to review their agenda (OOC: past PM to Asimov) and are ready to begin their assessment of American foreign policy within Eutopia.

The Ambassador greeted the Senators warmly and leaded them to the conference room. The battle began after taking seats."Welcome to Eutopia, gentlemen. I would do my best to aid you in your assessment of US interest on the island."Asimov started.

A note arrives from the CAFTA offices

A note arrives from the CAFTA offices
Mr. Ambassador,

In addition to the outstanding invitation, that you have not yet availed yourself of, that CAFTA extended to you to address our advisory council on the benefits of NAFTA, US efforts to expand free trade, or US-Eutopian economic development opportunities, I would like to expand that invitiation to include the visiting Senators as well, if their travel plans include New Lancaster City.

Respectfully,

"Thank you Ambassador," said Senator Bendi, "We are pleased that you have returned to service. You have received our dossier of our various priorities. Would you like to brief us at this time on your assessment of how Eutopia is positioned on the issues we identified, or would you prefer that we meet first with the Eutopians, and then you give us your assessment at the conclusion of our visit?"

The other two US Senators, Blowerd and Clarke, nodded, waiting for the Ambassador's decision.

a note arrives from the President of Eutopia.

"I would personally like to meet with the delegation from the United States and discuss the various issues that lie between our two nations. Let me know when and where this might be possible."

When the Ambassador started to reply, an aide slided him a note."It seems that somebody have answered that question for me. The Eutopian President has just invited us to meet him and I believe we should accept such generous act promptly."Asimov smiled.

*Prof. Talbott enters the Embassy and notifies the Ambassador's secretary of his arrival.*

The secretary entered the conference room and whispered to the Ambassador. Asimov nodded."Senators, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has arrived at the Embassy, I believe he would escort us to the President."He announced.

The Senators all nod and rise. Sen. Clarke stops for a moment to chat with the Foreign Minister.

Senator Bendi asks, "Will we be meeting in the conferenece room here, or elsewhere?"

(OOC: If we can keep the meeting with the President here, it won't be interrupted by others in the President's office. Just a suggestion....to keep all the American stuff here in the American Embassy. :) )

(OOC: Agreed. We can always have a banquet at the Embassy Garden. :D )

"This room seems to be a good choice at the moment, it's comfortable and protected, plus the atmosphere would be less formal than the offical Presidential office. We want to discuss freely, afterall."Asimov suggested, waiting for the MITA to reply.

*Prof. Talbott looks around the room for a moment hesitatingly and then responds.*

Sure, I don't see any problem with talking here. All of that highfalutin diplomatic protocol can often get in the way of real discussion--it just turns into small talk instead of productive diplomacy. Besides, I don't think that two close nations such as ourselves need all of that superfluous formality.

Let's get down to business, shall we?

Senator Clark, Senator Bendi...Senator Blowerd...welcome to Eutopia. I'm glad that you'll have a chance to see and examine closely this island that I call home, and all of us here really appreciate the fact that you have made the special effort to visit Eutopia during what is obviously a very busy time back in the States...but I digress, as usual. In any event, you obviously came here to discuss certain matters with us, Senator Clarke, so let's start discussing these matters, shall we, instead of waiting for me to try to guess them. Although I'm pretty sure I have a good idea of what they will be.
