For a party that espouses democracy this election seems very poorly handled. Little warning was given to party members of the election in general and less than 24 hours was given for members to come forwards as a contender in the race. The rules of the election were unclear at the start and seemed to be made up as things went on.

It seems unacceptable that the present leader of the party controls the election for the new leader. His actions may be innocent but to me it comes across as if he set things up to leave little opportunity for any serious challenge this leadership to be mounted. Whether this is true or not any appearnce of this sort of behaviour will damge the party leadership and the party as a whole.

The leadership election needs to have clear rules and be called with sufficient time for challengers to come forward and put their postions. Enough warning needs to be given so party members have a chance to vote. This all needs to be under the control of an independant person, not the party leader.

I don't want to be difficult but the party must uphold it's values in it's internal workings if it hopes to be taken seriously by the people of this country.

I for one do not doubt for a second that Mr. IKK was trying to run this election in an honest and straight foward manner. I do not believe at all that he was trying to rig it in his favor.

That being said, while I do think that we need to move quickly, the timetable might have been a tad too quick, although I think more time for the voting rather than nomination process seems more in order unless you know of another candidate out there. We still must move somwhat quickly so we can have solidified everything by election time.

Indeed...I mentioned something about this in our HQ...and the timing was kind of screwed up with the current emergency<OOC:plus let us not forget Paradox getting a new ISP>, I am sure Vasco would be willing to extend the voting due to the state of emergency that still exists in EUtopia with Beeblebrox still out there and who knows what else is going on with Hartwell and who knows whom else. I don't know if Hartwell is guilty or not of the charges laid against him, that is for a court of inquiry to decide. Actually wouldn't it be a military court like it is in the states? Or is it different here in EUtopia...

As (still) party leader, I'm suspending this vote for the time being. I support the objective of electing a new party leader, but a grand total of two days for nominations and elections is insufficient to guarantee the democratic integrity of the process.
