Let's phase in full provincial status. Maybe we could investigate if we want to provide special Topa "reservation" status, I see no problem with that, but I wouldn't commit to it yet.

Eventually we can move to more local WET administration of schools similar to the Latin provinces, but there shouldn't be anything granted in the WET above and beyond what Nouvelle Anjou and our other Latin provinces receive.

Not to go all Roger Smith or anything, but c'mon, this is one small part of our nation with only some of its inhabitants up in arms. We really shouldn't fold and strart dividing up our nation.

The more I think about this, the more I am AGAINST partial autonomy at this time.

Jack

I'll probably be overruled here, but I feel the provinces need more autonomy. Of course, if the rest of you think otherwise, it's not that big of a deal.

I don't feel like going into the details of an explanation right now, so I'll only give it if asked.

...because that would encourage all the provinces which want autonomy to go and get volatile, and that would be a mess!

By the way, I found a slight quirk in the Government Reform Bill. According to the list of what each ministry is responsible for, guess which ministry would be in charge of provincializing WET?

Education, Culture, and Technology, which covers "communities" and "culture". Believe it or not, MECT has the strongest claim out of all of them to province-making.

Weird! (Or wait, maybe provinces are a Presidential responsibility?)

I like it too, Charles. I think that could show the WET that we're serious about helping them, that we're not their enemy, and still doesn't reward them too much for being up in arms.

And thanks for the compliments. :D

Not sure what you're refering to Jack. The things said in the Presidential meeting? Something in Parliament? Anyway, it will be hard to say anything sensible about a system I know very little about (both in game and OOC). I'm quite dismal at this 'lawyers bussinss' anyway.

Let's get some more thoughts on the issues and platform, okay guys?

When you ask the MP what it's program is, you'll never get a clear awnser. This is because the MP has no clear program, it is more of a reactionary party. Our platform therefor, should allways consist of the problems and issues that Eutopia has to cope with. How about this?

Anti-terrorism law

Financial restructuring

A clear foreign policy with more initiative instead of response.

Infrastructure inventory assessment.

Redevelopment of nuclear energy (again).

OOC: I don't think he means "reactionary" in the same sense of "reactionary totalitarian dictatorship" but rather re-active instead of pro-active. The MP philosophy is to observe the situation, evaluate the options, and choose the one that best serves the public good, as opposed to having a preconceived ideological bent and trying to aggresively change the system.

I, too, would use the word "pragmatic" :) but Timothy's point is valid that we do not go out actively looking to change government, rather we react to circumstances on a case by case basis.

I was referring to the JUSTICE plank of the platform of ideas I suggested earlier (OOC: earlier in this thread, including more judges to expedite trials, more police, better anti-terrorism resources, etc.)

But if the legal systems of little interest, no worries.

I agree with all of these but think that redevelopment of nuclear energy is problematic at this specific time based on the the severe economic hardships we are facing in part due to our declining coal industry (OOC: See the Events thread). Moving ahead with a project that will reduce domestic coal consumption, when foreign demand for our coal has dried up, will have grave economic impacts at this time.

Jack, the least I can do is re-read your proposals (OOC: I don't think that it would be a good idea game-wise to make every trial a 'live trial' played out IC. That way, you get one overworked attorney general. Asking for more people to become judges is asking for more players to commit themselves to these trials./OOC)

BTW, you where right on the reationary = re-active thing. Thanks for clarifying it for me.

I'm going to promote some of the work we, the MP, have done in the past on the Nordic culture issue. I think we have a great record while the CRE does not.

While this won't necessarily endear us to the Topa, the Norse are an important group we need to protect as well.

I think what I've posted is in line with the speeches given so far.

We do all agree that we want:

Norse offered in WET schools?

Full provincial status for the WET?

More jobs in the WET? (Not necessarily special Topa set-asides, etc, but better economic conditions for the entire island)

Right?

And that we'd explore "cultural autonomy" similar to the Latin provinces, but no new or special status different from any other minority-cultured majority province, right?

Finally, despite the Hanson episode, no one here is seriously considering closing the Farpoint base are they? I may have missed that in earlier discussions.

Jack,

(First off, one of the things I love about this party is that we are so friendly we're all on first-name speaking terms!)

Do you want to guest-speak at the forthcoming rally in EUtopia City? I would be glad to introduce you (subject: what this party stand for), or if you don't want to, I'll concoct a speech.

Mr. Petrus,

My recent correspondence to you was returned and your telephone voice mail box was full, so I 've not been able to send you the latest update on your campaign for parliament.

Please contact me when you are able.

Jack

(OOC: PM box was full! :D)

CSM storms into the office in a flying rage.

"BOY! did I make a real hash out of that last Gazette!!! I bet I'll have a half dozen letters to the editor by tomorrow morning! The whole thing is so biased--I didn't even mention the ESRP, CC, or RD ("Rational Progress" could have been a story), and anyone with half an eye could see that the CRE article was a hastily tacked on afterthought! I am MAD! But it's already in print!!!"

The beautiful blonde secretary at the front desk smiles weakly and says, "Mr. Morgan, who would you like to...er...yell at?"

"A psychiatrist," he dejectedly says when he realizes who he's been shouting at, before slumping out of the room and into his office.

Mr. President!

Methinks you better decide on a Cabinet, since you are inevitably going to win.

And remember to choose me as your MECT...I am completely ready for the job (have picked advisors and deputies, written up goals, etc.). I am very eager to become MECT and if I don't I'll have to get a refill on my prescription anti-depression drugs...Please? (Bambi-eyes)

[OOC: Well, most of that is true, but my character will never be on anti-depressants!]
