See? Just when you thought he wasn't paying attention, Judas is there when it counts! :D

Lawrence - Welcome to the party. As you can see we do have an anti-monarchist stance, in terms of preserving our Republic, but as you can also see there is plenty of room for diversity of opinion.
If you like the rest of our platform we are pleased to have you on board. Let us know what we can do to help, and what your interests are in terms of policy, politics, seeking elected or appointive offices, etc.

Robert - Foreign Policy plank added to platform in campaign office.

1) I have profiles up in the campaign office for everyone but Judas, Charles, and Lawrence.

Does anyone want to try to take a stab at putting one together for Charles in case he doesn't get back until the last minute?

2) I've adopted John's campaign colors for our party's campaign colors. Limegreen if anyone wants to use them.

3) If anyone can contribute to the Preservation of the Celtic Wlak Fund (OOC: By posting in that thread), it would be greatly appreciated! :D (OOC: PM me for more details).

Not much else to say, however... unless you want to put "frequenter of BrewTopia", which might not exactly be the best PR available. ;)

Meet the Moderates

Lawrence Chatfield

Political Beliefs: Rational, reasoned governence is the key to a prosperous state. There must be freedom for all citizens of Eutopia to live as they wish, regardless of religion or race, and make their fortune unhindered by the state. However, we must aid those of lesser circumstances - I believe that the welfare state is a safety net, not a way of life. At the same time however, it is the duty of those born to a high lot in life to help the less fortunate in our nation. One nation - one Eutopia.

Positions and Achievements:

Officer (retired) in the (former) Royal Parachute Corps

Former member of the One Nation Party

Joint Minister of Defence (land forces) in pre-republican parliament

Thank you for the welcome, gentlemen. A little about myself, if I may.

My specialties lie in defence, economics, and to a slightly lesser extent foreign policy. During my time in the army I also gained an insight into internal counter-insurgency issues, specifically regarding Latin seperatist movements. As you probably know, I left the army some years ago in disgust with the general malaise that was afflicting it; outdated equipment, a general poor calibre of officers, and ridiculous bureaucratic practices. Most of all, it was the fact that the pre-republican parliament before the death of the King and the succession crisis were unwilling to take any real measures to rectify this. Reform of the military must begun as soon as is feasible, especially in light of recent events!

My views on the monarchy are probably well known, I am in favour of a strictly ceremonial monarchy along the lines of such nations as Great Britain and Norway. Whilst the constitution may give some token powers to the monarchy, I believe it is a sign of how mature a democracy and a people we are that convention will limit these token powers to nil. A monarch that attempts to overstep their bounds will certainly find not just outrage but an uncomprimising constitutional court awaiting them.

The CRE clearly does not want this. The CRE is asking for much more than a figurehead monarch to bind our nation! Would the CRE have their way, we would be bound by nothing but the shackles of unelected dictatorship and aristocracy.

Timothy: I will consider your offer, I must first however find this advisory committee to find out more about it... [ooc: I'll have to read the relevant thread and see what's going on before deciding].

Good News and Bad News

As you know, the parliament recently approved our multi-partisan response to the French Hostage Crisis. One of the provisions of this act was the President had a firm deadline for appointing an envoy to France to begin deliberations.

The good news is that he has appointed said envoy.

The bad news, at least in some regards, is that said envoy is me.

Thus, I will need to make preparations to fly to France immediately.

I will make sure our campaign office is updated with your latest submissions before I go.

However, if any of you have any suggestions, or would like to be a party of the negotiating team as an advisor, please let me know.

For the record, here is the legislation, as enacted, and its mandates:

This legislation will require the president and the MDIA appoint a diplomatic envoy to the French government. The envoy should:

I. Secure evidence that our citizens are all alive, healthy, and being cared for in accordance to international standards.

II. Demand that all detainees be allowed to communicate with their families and government representatives of Eutopia.

III. Demand an end to French military harassment of Eutopian vessels in international waters.

IV. Demand proof that justifies the capture and detention of our citizens. If this cannot be delivered, he must demand:

A) A public apology from the French to our captured citizens.
B) A reparation sum amounting to the loss of income the fishermen have suffered due to their unlawful detention by the French, to be payed by France to our citizens.
C)The immediate release of these citizens into our custody.

If the French do not comply, we will:

D) Deliver a formal complaint at the United Nations with the President naming the messenger to the UN within three (3) days of the French refusal , citing that the French have:

- Failed to require ships under their flag to render assistance as required by international law.
- Breached our traditional waters as set out by the North American Fishing Agreement and unlawfully prevented lawful fishing by our citizens
- Detained our citizens without a proper case against them.

AND

Finally, the President is required to send this envoy within three (3) days of the enactment of this legislation. If the President and MDIA fail to name an envoy within three days of the passage of this legislation, the MDIA shall be considered the envoy. If the President fails to name a messenger to the United Nations within three days of France's refusal to comply with the requests of the envoy, of this legislation, the parliament will select the messenger.

E) Deploy our navy to the protect our citizens vessels in the North Eutopian Shoal.

Wish me luck,

Jack

Last minute business

I will soon be departing for France. I do not know how long this mission will last, and to be honest, given the recent treatement of Eutopians in Europe I may be staying longer than I anticipate.

The parliament is in it's final days and there should be no more votes this session. However, I have instructed the Speaker that, if another vote is taken, to contact us so that a new Moderate Party member can be installed in my absence.

In my absence, Timothy, as Deputy Chairman, will take over as Chairman. I have posted Moderate Party profiles for everyone except Charles and John. (John - you might want to do a nice detailed "Meet John O'Floin" if you have time :) )

I have already voted, and encourage anyone who has not yet done so to go ahead and get your ballot in.

I also think I have taken adequate security precautions to protect John on the campaign trail.

I should be available by mobile phone (OOC: PMs and limited posting "by phone" :D) if needed.

I hate to leave on the eve of the election but duty calls.

Drink one (or two) for me at the Victory Party!

- Jack

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have won a great victory in both the Presidential election as well as the parliamentary election. With 3 MP's, we are not just the founder but also the senior member of the CPR. And congratulations mr O'Floinn on your victory.

I want to thank our voters first, who with their vote, not only have expressed their support for the MP, but also for the CPR, and for an active, problem-solving government.

I would especially like to thank Mr Teano for his work for the MP on so many issues. he has made it possible for the MP to express itself so clearly in Eutopian politics and society.

And I'd like to thank the MP members for their commitment to the election and the CPR.

This is only the beginning. We are going to have to make some tough decisions on the new government. But I'm looking forward to the times ahead, and I'm sure many of you do too.

[OOC:Timothy, you might want to repost that in the communication thread so that the newspapers can quote you]

I want to extend my congratulations to our new President John O'Floinn. Good luck John, you will need it ;)
Congratulations for Jack, Timothy and Yuber too for winning a seat in parliament.

Thanks guys. This is an important victory for us. Don't forget, this is the first election we've existed for and we came out quite well. We have the most seats out of the CPR parties, so our say should have some power. What are we going to do about speaker?

Here's the relevant section from the CPR agreement:

- The legislative offices will be decided by parliament after the election, though CPR allies will likely negotiate and agree on the slate. The MP would not be eligible for the Speakership or Deputy Speakership.

Technically we could support one person or another but I don't think we should unless the other parties can't agree.

I really expect that will not be the case. A CRE speaker could hurt the government quite a bit if he wanted.
For the very same reason I guess our MPs would support a single candidate if the CPR couldn't come to an agreement. At least that's what I'd advise to them.

Speaking of advising you haven't answered my last letter [OOC:pM].

The Abbey on Fontenay in Burgundy was founded by St. Bernard in 1118. Its condition today is as perfect as when it was first built. Its present-day reputation is on a par with the spiritual influence it had in that period. The rules and regulations of the Cistercian order are perfectly reflected in this masterpiece of roman art. In 1981 UNESCO raised Abbey of Fontenay to "world heritage" status.

Fellow Party Members,

Congratulations! I have just received the news about our victories in the Parliament and our landslide victory for the presidency.

John, good job on a well-fought campaign!

I have stopped by the Abbety of Fontenay on my way to the hotel. I remain optimistic about my mission, but as yet have nothing new to report. Hopefully I can get the Red Cross and Amnesty International to take a role in this.

I'm a phone call away if you need me for anything during the transition, but I know everything will run smoothly (perhaps better :D) in my absence!

Tip back a pint for me at BrewTOPIA!

Best regards,

Jack

Guys? Ah well, you still must be down at Brewtopia celebrating.

I just wanted to put in a quick call about the upcoming parliamentary elections.

I know Baron Baner (CRE) and Kevynus Fox (RD) have been nominated. I haven't seen any other nominations, though admitedly, I am in another country.

Several people have recommended Mr. Fox to me, so I thought I'd pass that on. I haven't heard if the CC have a candidate or not. If we are prohibitted from the Speakership or Deputy Speakership under the CPR we should probably make sure that if there's an RD speaker there's a CC Deputy, and vice versa. Help to keep the peace. :)

I hope to back soon, so I shouldn't have to step down from Parliament. However, Yuber may wish to do so in order to dedicate more time to the MHA. That would mean, as John is President, Yuber's replacement would be Charles, who I thought would be back this week.

Yuber, you may want to stay in Parliament until you hear from him. If you don't hear from him by Friday, you guys may want to think about going to who's next in line. Judas maybe? Timothy, I guess that's your call on how long to wait. His last message to me said the end of the month.

I may try to jet in and out for the speaker's vote, but would have to return immediately to France. So if there's been any discussion about the party's support for a Speaker candidate, call me (OOC:pM me) and let me know.

Thanks,

Jack
