Greetings, fellow coalition members!

Since most of you already know me, I will only give a short introduction of myself: My name is Bram Borgman, and I have been a MoP for the ESRP for quite some time now, and last term I was Vice-speaker.

This last thing I would like to speak about. This term I am namely the ESRP's candidate for speakership, and I hope to be (in some way) become the candidate for the entire CPR.

So why should our MP's vote for me? Well first of all, I have gained some experience during the abscence of our current speaker, mr. Lundgren, so I know how things work. My deputy speaker could also gain some experience for a future term, when I'm away (OOC: first week of august).

Also, I will be honest, as in that I think every bill should get a fair chance, and a vote, aeven if I personally am against it. Some of our previous speakers have, or so I strongly believe, shown their bias about a bill when deciding upon voting and debating. I don't think anyone can say I have done such things last term.

I hope that I've informed you enough, and that all wil vote for me.

Sincerely,
Bram Borgman

No we wouldn't.

We are happy to negotiate, as we hope and expect you are, but we wish to retain our elected positions for the moment.

I would just like to re-iterate my commitment and desire to have a second term as MDIA. At the mooment I feel that I can cope with parliament and a ministry.

Are we going to consider anyone from outside the CPR for cabinet positions. Admiral Tulp would be an excellent MDIA for example.

(ooc you guys do know part of my absences the last 2 terms where to make sure the deputy speaker could do the job;) its an important thing to find out early)

indeed i am taking a break from parliament this term, and i quite possibly will return next term.

Important factor here mr. borgman, it is not a good way to get support for speaker from anyone on the right by calling me a biased person, as many bills did not deserve full consideration and if you cant see that then you will not make a good speaker, and certain bills require much more consideration, while all but ignoring others. if we give every bill brought before parliament full investigation then someone could create a bill to ban shorts and we would have to waste precious time on it. It is required sometimes to be show no favour towards a bill so that the important things can get done.

speaker is the most important thing to decide upon, and once its done, hopefully over the weekend, the full government can swiftly be formed and get underway. as stated if there is a need for me to serve, or a spot perfect for me i have no reservations about serving this term in such a role.

Some personal thoughts:

Concerning the elections: Congratulations to all parties for your results.

Concerning the speakership: Although I agree that Mr. Langley is a very able parliamentarian, I think Mr. Borgman deserves the promotion to speakership based on his past efforts in the deputy speakers office. Mr. Langley would do a great job, I'm sure, but I agree with the train of thought that a speaker should first serve as a deputy for a while, to get to know the ropes. In Mr. Langleys favor I can cite that he will probably find a great mentor in Mr. Lundgren.

Concerning myself: I've greatly enjoyed my time as MHSA, and I strongly feel that my work isnt finished there. I would like to apply for the new MECT position, based on my experience and track record in the field. To be honest, I must objectively state that Mr. Morgans history in the educational field might be a bit too flimsy to make strong demands for the ministry. If the president deems that I would better serve in another role, I would like to offer Mr. Elijah Hamilton as my successor. I believe it isnt necessary to elaborate on his accomplishments as my advisor during the past term. On a totally different note, I must say that I've greatly missed the parliamentary debates, and have often bitten nails to pieces over the kind of bills that made it to a vote, such as the University Bill. *smiles at Mr. Josephus and his companions* What I'm getting at, is that I would serve with equal spirit in parliament or in a ministry, although I do believe I can present a strong claim for the MECT. Either way, I will make it my prime objective to ensure that proposed legislation has a minimum of quality. This is also the line I would hold to if I would be serving in some form of speakership, now or in the future.

Concerning the RD's position in negotiations: I acknowledge that we hold the same amount of seats as the ESRP and the CC, but I still feel that our extra votes give us a little bit of extra weight when asking for a favor during these negotiations. I'm not making outrageous demands, I'm just stating that our extra voters should not be forgotten simply because they didnt manage to earn us an extra seat.

So much to say, so much to decide... Good luck, Mr. President - Tough days ahead. *bright smile*

I

STRONGLY

disagree, and will fight such a move with every core of my fiber until all that is left is a withered and decayed husk.

If you feel Tulp would in anyway be appropriate for this ministry then perhaps you have a philosophy about the ministry's future that runs counter to many of ours?

If this coalition advances Tulp to such a position then it will lose my support forever.

Tulp's continued blatant, shameless, and offensive contempt for civilian control over the military is a smear on our very constitution. Further his support of the ERO and proposals for putting the military under the command of a monarch (OOC: that's the rumor I heard, anyway;) )run counter to every single ideal a pro-republican party could stand for.

I cannot believe my ears and I am extremely shocked and offended by such a recommendation and need to go take a drink to calm down.

I would still argue that ministers should not also serve as members of parliament.

I think it is perfectly appropriate for a member of parliament to serve as a deputy minister, however.

I think that splitting the time between the two roles diminishes the effectiveness of both, even if the individual has the best intentions.

Trying to serve in both positions not only cheats Eutopians of the full undivided attention of their elected officials it also denies perfectly capable Eutopians of an opportunity for community service while others hoard government positions.

Deputy ministers can be quite active and involved in government and make significant contributions. I would point to the work of Elijah Hamilton at the old MHSA and, before his disappearance, Robert Vergocz as Deputy MDIA. Other examples exist as well.

We can keep veteran leaders involved and still provide opportunities for the leaders of the future.

Or at least, that's what I would consider smart party building.

I concur with Mr. Teano. Promoting Vice Admiral Tulp as our chief diplomat is flabbergastingly short-sighted.

I've invited Mr. Hamilton to present his resumé and future thoughts about the MECT in this meeting. I think this can be helpful in presenting all candidates with a fair chance, and president O'Floinn with the right information to make a good decision.

I hope everyone agrees?

Hello all. Mr. Fitzpatrick was kind enough to invite me to this meeting to present my credentials as I am indeed interested in serving in this government. As an avowed independent perhaps my willingness to serve as a minister would make it easier to allocate seats between members of this coalition; if there is no ministerial position than I look forward to serving this government in other ways. I understand Mr. Morgan, who I have had the pleasure of working with through the EJA, also is looking at the MECT, obviously the best fit for me, but I thought I would present my case for why I think I would make a good MECT.

Credentials
  • Advisor to MHSA Fitzpatrick last term Completed comprehensive report on Eutopian Higher Education Finances, Completed Rough Draft of Report on Elementary Finances, Spearheaded the creation of Higher Education Reform Committee, Offered Advice and Opinions on other Advisor’s ideas, most notably on the Jewish Culture Festival
  • Chair of the Eutopian Olympics Commission Gained official Olympic Support, Gained consensus among members over sports to focus on and a training/HQ site, Wrote a funding proposal to pay for the construction of the training/HQ site
  • Founder of the Educational Reformer Put education on the map, Consistent articles and editorials on all matters of all concerns on Eutopian Education

Summary I am obviously very proud of the work I’ve done on Eutopian Education. I think my advocacy has made a difference and it is this level of advocacy that I would bring to any ministerial position. I would also like to emphasize my experience on the EOC. While we are just getting started, I think the Committee has accomplished a lot of good things already.

MECT Plans

Obviously I would continue with Education reform. I think the major emphasis this semester could be on ways to save money at the Higher Education level. While this isn’t my first preference, this is where we have more options and research available. I believe strongly in a consensus system and because of the nature of the CPR I think it is essential, but entirely possible, to come up with a solution that satisfies both the CC and the ESRP.

I think that as MECT I would place an emphasis on reviving Eutopia’s somewhat flagging sports leagues. As MECT, I could act as a sort of head cheerleader for this and hopefully reinvigorate this part of Eutopia that helps everyone take a breather from the every day pressures of life.

One idea that I would like to persue is having high speed internet access easily available for all Eutopians. For this I think Eutopia’s libraries (OOC: I assume that these are considered part of either the Education or Community aspect of the MECT portfolio) would be a great resource. I think that a program could be worked out with telecommunications companies here in Eutopia to make that a reality.

As for the media aspect of the portfolio, I think this is one of the best run sectors in Eutopia. We have a vibrant media and I would work hard to ensure that continues. I am myself a member of the EJA and I would look forward to working hand-in-hand with them to advance common causes.

This describes what I would hope to be an important part of my ministry. I think that there is a great amount of room here for help. It is truly a large ministry and I would hope that people such as Dr. De Vlaminck and Rebecca Cook would once again lend their talents to the ministry. There is too much work to be done and I would look forward to theirs and hopefully other’s, help this term.

Again while I would be honored to serve as MECT, I understand if the demands of the coalition simply do not allow it. If you have any questions I would be most happy to answer them.

I hearby withdraw my interest in the MDIA position for personal reasons.

OOC in RL I am stepping up my university commitments with some extra courses namely learning a language (russian). I simply won't be around as much. I won't offer any suggestions for replacements as my last one wasn't popular.:)
