"Well I want to start by pushing through legislation privatising Omnicare. Then a blanket bill dealing with the unions, their internal democracy, and their position as regards to business. I also want to launch a little health scheme I've been thinking about.

I do wish to deal wit the monarchy at some point, but only by launching a committee on its reinstatement. But as I said, we can't do very much with a single MGA."

If you want to deal with the Unions, ressurect the Princess Leia (officialy LEIA) bill. Health schemes are good, and adding an amendment to the PRRFA would also gain us support. And by all means withdraw the bill.

Well, as MESA, I think we can probably work something out about Omnicare

"I'll set out exactly what I feel about Omnicare for you.

Frankly it is absolutely absurd that our Government should have paid 27 billion ducats in Omnicare subsidies in Term 9 when during the same term our nation had a debt of 280 billion ducats! That 27 billion would've balanced the budget and even paid off a small amount of the debt. There is no need for the Government to have a finger in the insurance pie - especially when it is as troublesome as it is. One only has to look at the bankruptcy scandal of a few years ago to see the evidence of this.

What we really need to be doing is dividing up Omnicare into a series of different companies and then introduce competition into the market. It'll be a hefty job, and I recommend testing it initially on a minor part of the business - perhaps personal insurance.

Then, of course, there's RECOM. It's also patently absurd that the state should own all natural resources in Eutopia. But, again, privatisation of RECOM would be an immensely troublesome business, and better left until we have finished with Omnicare. Do I speak sense?"

Yes.

My first plan as MESA is to do some house cleaning, see what departments I can close and consolidate.

Omnicare will fall into this.

For RECOM, I would favor selling it in shares, but with each individual only being allowed a certain number. We do not want Queen Maria-style landowners who basically own the whole province as a personal domain.

The obvious solution to our debt woes, is, of course, the confiscation of the Royal lands in the WET. Of course, as we're all monarchists and free-marketers here (to one degree or another), the solution isn't the best one, but I'm sure we can adapt it for our uses. In the end, probably, the courts wouldn't have it (although there are plenty of good legal arguments for the validity of the nationalization of the land, as well), but that's still quite unresolved.

I have great respect for the Queen and for Princess Francesca, but I feel that the Tilapians may be trying to manipulate the Royal Lands situation for political gain. If, God forbid, the Queen were to die, they could move in as de facto rulers of the territory, and, considering the current scandals, probably with the blessing of the Americans. I'm a monarchist because I hope for eventual reunion of the island under one crown...but not by having the UPE be sliced away under us like salami. The Royal Lands dispute is between us and the Tilapians, not between us and the Queen (although they're trying to make it seem like that, certainly), so we need to start putting pressure on them (which is what I'm doing now as MERL).

In addition, this gives another incentive for people to choose monarchy; install Maria as Queen, and the Tilapians lose their claims--and our debt problems are solved without the need for any messy legal business.

Why don't we try to launch a coup? FLEA is at my bidding, anyway, so taking care of the recalcritant elements would be easy, however, we would need the support of the armed forces... which we do not have, except perhaps the navy.

We will have no such talk in these halls.

First of all, they might be bugged.

Second of all, when anyone associated with a rightist movement attempts a coup, it sets conservatism back ten years when it inevitably fails.

And if you were to succeed, what then? It would just confirm what everyone else thinks about us--that we're a 1950's Latin American country, with Presidents of the Week. Then the little trade embargo that the Americans are about to spring on us would be the least of our concerns.

Considering the record of the current administration, I doubt we'll have much trouble regaining power by more legal means, anyway.

Just entertaning for all contingencies. I actually have preparations to leave the country in case of coup or other such buisness.
