That's the background story from Richard Harris' "The Eagle has landed". I've always wondered whether that was true or not ... Mr. Harris certainly suggests it.

Do you have some background info that I could read on that ? :)

Edit: Not Richard Harris, but Jack Higgins, but I'll let it stand so everzone can see I made a mistake

I've googled a bit and have found only stuff that relates to the movie or calls it a fictional account. There was ONE other context that has to do with a plan to kidnap Hitler conceived by General von Flockenstuffen

Its really not gonna happen, you start to infringe on that easily disruptable territory of prisoner camps, because, they have to stay somewhere.

So also note, many former 'prisoners', and pretty much anyone and everyone between the Vistula and Oder met somewhat of an ugly fate in '45. The closest you'll get to humans in HoI 2 are pictures of dead famous leaders and numbers that represent armed and capable fighting men with their equipment.

Kept somewhere means camps.
Not neccessarily. It could just be a feature of the province, like the infrastructure level. Something like a PoW meter.

Disgustoid said:
The recovering bit only happened whenever there was a POW camp being liberated by movement of the front. No special rescue operations as such IIRC (I have a book from my granddad somewhere on POWs of all sides somewhere) at least not on this scale. Remember 10 MP=1div=10000 men (or thereabouts)
True. It only did happen because of the movement of the front, but it did influence allied bombing targets and change the influence of one part of the front over another. This is what I want to see. If a province, or a few provinces happen to have a high PoW value - then I change my strategy to take them so that back home I win political brownie points. More importantly, the planning for major resuces went on during the entire war. They just were never feasbile. It would be nice to do it once during a war. It may yield the political capital of something like the Doolittle Raid.

As for a war crimes level, it does not have to go that far. It could be something as simple as a budget allocated to the PoW problem. If its costs 100 units / year, and you allocated 50, then the PoWs are 1/2 maximum treatment level. IE: The people at home are more upset about how their PoWs are treated and you get more political clout or better recruitment for a short burst due to the parades and such for a daring rescue.

POWs,criminal levels and the sort are forbidden and for sure they wont be in.
Are you people joking about it or you cant understand forum rules?
Are you seriously beliave that a game which wont allow chemical weapons and terror bombing will give up for POWs and criminal levels?

As i said before even if stats freak whould like to see this it whould be too complicated to make for the dev. team without giving the game a big improvement(for me it whould be no improvement at all).

It is better instead to have stats about ships sunk/airplanes shoot down/divisions destroyed.
If you need more "killing"stats stick to that and leave POW out.

Just a little something about being discreet:

There were some prisoners exchange during WWII, yes. A different question entirely is how many of the prisoners exchanged actually made it back to their homes and lines, instead of.... Well I don`t know ending up in the Gestapo integorations office, tortured alive, into Siberia as "Enemies of the motherland" ...

Can anyone name a succesfull prisoners exchange of soldiers (Remember soldiers not officers) in WWII?

imo POWs should be in game. form 1942 onwards atleast 1000000 ex-Soviet soldiers were in German armed forces, mostly serving in rearunits as sentrys, drivers etc. not to mention numerous osttruppen, what were deployed all around occupied europe, those units also consisted mostly ex-POWs.

You could have an event that frees some of your industrial manpower due to large number of POWs used for slave labor, like Germany did in WW2. But that´s about it, everything else is either unrealistic in a WW2 scenario (large scale prisoner exchange) or not wanted by Paradox (problems that come with the imprisonment of POWs).

Is De Gott actually banned or did he add the graphic himself? Why is he able to start threads and post replies if he is banned?

Not to mention the "happy camps" that most of these POWs were located in USSR and Germany. ;)

So in all: Not realistic, not gamebalancable and most of all: Indiscreet... NOw did I leave anything out? :D

POWs are a part of war and I would think a part of a game like HOI2. As much as slavery is a part of Victoria. It is not a significant part, if at all, to most nations, but it does exist. Someone else suggested representing through events. That also works.

Your reference to forum rules is confusing me. In what way has this discussion crossed the line? We are discussing something in the abstract, much like the unit strengths or industrial capacity. The areas of discussion that I interpret as being outside that scope are not being discussed, or are quickly shut out.

Can a moderator please offer their opinion here?

POW needs camps which is clearly off.Another member had a genius idea to introduce CRIMINAL LEVEL.Why not holocaust policy then?
Get serious people instead of asking things that wont happen gather your forces to ask dev. team for a normal weather/logical naval and air combat and that stuff.
Nobody says that in real war POW arent an issue. However if dev. team thinks to put it incide it whould create more problems than the bonus it will add.
Not to mention that whould probably start a discussion that whould certainly croos the line of forum rules.
Sometimes it is better to work for prevention rather that will do and see. From mine point of view introduction of anything similar to POW whould not be anything good.so it is better to leave it out.

There will not be any POW camps in Hearts of Iron 2 and the additional forum rules specifically ask that you refrain from discussing this. Making prisoners some form of trade resource is also beyond the scope of the game, this is not SimPrison (although that may be a pretty good idea for a game ;) - Batonga, Batonga, Batonga!)

Any discussion on historical prisoner exchanges can be continued in the History forum

Oh, and any discussion on Disgustoid's signature can be continued, with pictures of Keira and Emanuelle of course, in the Off Topic forum :D
