Howdy, big fan of the Elder Kings mod, love the detail and the great prospects for some strategy gaming in Tamriel. However I'm increasingly finding that despite 16gb of RAM and 4.7Ghz of processing power, I can only get about 100 years into the game before a single month needs about 6-8 seconds to pass - and I know this isn't a graphical issue as I play on political map. So this being the case, I'm thinking of deactivating half the map, pretty much everything East of Argonia, to see if cutting down on character totals will get me any improvement in performance. But does anyone know the best way of going about this? I tried simply removing the titles in question but no joy, does anyone have any ideas?

I don't think that will help that much because this mod is already one of the least demanding ones. Is vanilla CK2 really any faster?

Regular CK2 takes about half as long to get through a month after the same period of play. Now I did try the tree thing, and I think I got a marginal improvement in time per month, but I suspect the bottleneck is processing power rather than graphics (again I play exclusively on the political map).

I actually find that this mod runs faster for me than vanilla, at least for the "early" game anyways. CK2 is 32 bit and single core only, so it's throttled by a pretty big bottleneck.

.... I'm beginning to see why people here want long wait timers if 6-8 seconds for a month to pass is unusually long for them.

I was surviving on 20s/month for quite a while, and it hasn't really improved all that much even with a new computer.

Outside of writing all events in a way to minimize lag using improved triggers and such not much can be done really to improve performance. This is the kind of issue that will only improve rather then worsen as time goes on, both through performance fixes to the base engine that may be created in future patches and the constantly improving field of processors.

Its not worth it to cut out major features from the main mod in exchange for small speed boosts that will only really be a problem for some users for a limited time frame

Well I appear to have scored a significant improvement in performance simply by deactivating the Taesci sections of the map, namely by removing the history files of the relevant provinces. This seems to have gotten months down to about 4 seconds, which seems far more tolerable.
