So I have played Crusader Kings 2 for hundreds of hours, but I haven't had a situation wherein I've used primogeniture succession in a while. Currently I'm the Byzantine Doux of Sicily and Achaia, which is great. Things are going well for my Dynasty. I changed it from gavelkind to primogeniture to ensure that all the titles stayed together. In my last couple of games, the Empire languished with virtually no crown authority which made it impossible to even try to implement primogeniture succession.

Anyway, my problem.

My Doux has a son. His son(alive and able) had a son. His son(alive and able) also has a son. So, my character's infant great grandson is heir, not his son. Did I forget something? Did I misunderstand something? Is this how it's supposed to work?

Thanks for any insight.

It is a touch complicated

The Duchy of Adrianople went to Georgia at some point via inheritance. My wife was a member of the Georgian royal family and she had a claim on the Duchy that I was able to push--so I did. However, when I won the war she became independent instead of reverting back to the Byzantine Empire. I asked her to become my vassal(I became King of Sicily just recently), but she will not. Ungrateful. My son is her heir.

Well, she also just died. So my Son is the Doux of Adrianople and my grandson is his heir.

Is that why? My great grandson is my heir because he's not currently the heir to any foreign holding? I don't think that rule is very clear.

Does the Byz/Adrianopole have absolute authority? Possibly the "No lands can leave the realm." aspect of it is stopping you. I just had a similar issue and I thought it might have been that.
