Hello,

I am well aware of problem with interhitance when my son is made bishop or rules merchant republic. My case is different though.

I am Duke of three duchies in middle Italy (Ferrara, Spoleto, Tuscany), while being a vassal of King of Lombardy. That King holds also title of Duke of Lombardy. My eldest son was married to countess of Milan - direct vassal of King. Plan was simple - their child, being mine grandchild would interhit Milan.

Somehow however i got info that my heir is my grandchild, skipping his talented father. Milan is normal province in feudal kingdom. Can anybody explain what happened and why?

In your first screenshot, you can see that he is heir to a bishopric. This disqualifies him from succession.

Aside: If Monza is in Milan then he might have been nominated by his wife - which is funny because the marriage will be dissolved when he becomes bishop. I guess she wants a divorce?

On the off-chance that his nomination is an error (eg. if Monza has Papal rather than Free investiture), you could try exiting and reloading - this forces the game to recalculate succession. Otherwise, my advice is to bring him back to your court and give him a barony or county in your realm - preferably one that's geographically close to his wife so that they can continue to have children.

EDIT - If you're not ironman, you could use the console to switch to his wife and nominate someone else for the bishopric. (If necessary, you can use 'yesman' for a few days to force the Pope to agree.)

Yeah, and now i will lose that county upon succession :D Will be passed to his wife, because she is also his liege.

You dont need geographical proximity in this game to in rease chances of having children.

Also to not have to spend days playing as someone else, you can switch the pope to playable government / religion and accept the proposal from milan, switch back to your main char and resume the game, pope should automatically revert back to theocracy if he is feudal ( i do not think that works for MR and nomad)

Why would you loose that county? Are there some restricted inheritance law shenanigans in effect?

I don't understand how this can happen. Once you invite him to your court, he becomes your vassal (your portrait appears above his). Then, when you give him a barony/county, he stays as your vassal.

I suppose it is possible that this is caused by the game failing to recalculate succession. As before, save/exit/reload.

Also, I should have said earlier, but it's a very good idea to back up your save before trying any of these fixes.

You dont need geographical proximity in this game to increase chances of having children.

Really? I thought that husband/wife in different courts caused a decrease in the chance of a random pregnancy? (Similar to the way that husband/wife lovers increases the chance of a random pregnancy.)

Admittedly, I have nothing to back me up except recollections, and I have only an even-more-hazy recollection that geographical proximity was a factor. And the rule may well be suspended if both husband and wife are landed.

I wasn't clear. I did mean His succesion. When owner of my county dies, this county will go to his son - my grandson. And his liege is countess of Milan.

Well i found solution to my situation. I invited my eldest son to court and then his wife vanished without a trace. Love CK2 ;)

Unless she gave your grandson a county as well, your grandson would become your vassal on inheritance.
