Not when you consider where they're positioned globally. They're not near Europe or North America, which are probably the two continents with the most stable internet connection, and they're technically an island so you'd have to run cables out, and cables cost money and have limited bandwith per cable. I'm sure they could get a fairly good intranet going.
I guess it is just a matter of EBgames being stupid, as usual.
Over here EBgames are almost always a fare bit more expensive than any other store (it is not uncommon for a new game to be 20-25% more expensive at EBgames, and they don't lower the prices of older games particularly fast either). Sometimes they do retarded things like marking down a lot of games to 10€, without really checking what games they are marking down (Punch out for Wii for 10€, ½month after its release? Thank you! But why are you selling a copy of Oblivion (PC) for 50€? That game is old, and they have released a version containing all expansions (which by the way also costs 50€). And why is it more expensive to buy a used copy of certain games than it is to buy a new one?).

Indeed. Australia is big, but stores (at least stores that want to be successful) must still stick to the cities. And EB is a chain that (at least around here) tends to stick to the large downtown shopping malls.
