This is not smart move by paradox to put it lightly. You want to increase prices, fine, but old games must be at more or less same price if not cheaper, increase prices with new titles, and maybe that don’t cause such uproar. You also don’t do that in a wake of a major sale, that just plain slap to the fanbase. As of right now it looks like shooting your own leg.

I always had my doubts about the DLC policy that made me not buy on release (not even on sales). Now this. I dont know what to say. Im definitely not buying a game from PDX anymore ... Well, perhaps if its for 3-6€.

Wrong. Stop making assumptions about people. I'm from Lebanon, a third world middle eastern country that has worse average wages than Russia and yet we don't have a Steam region to ourselves, so I have to pay the full ROW price for all games. But there are two kinds of reactions people can have when faced with adversity. There are those who go "That is painful, and I do not want others to suffer the same way - so I will try to make the world a better place for them because no one should be in the situation I am in", and then there are those that go "Well, if I've suffered, why shouldn't they? So I will try to make the world as miserable as possible so others will understand my pain". I'm sorry that you, and all the other posters who seem to think Russia are getting it too easy because other third world countries pay full price, fall in the second category. However, please stop using us as an excuse.
to be completely honest you prompted that response by saying "equity though" if most people are getting discriminated price wise just because a small portion of people in between those people have benefits because of political stuff im not going to support that equity, if equity wants to be a thing make it universal ,
is that so unreasonable?

This is like saying you're against charity because it only helps a small percentage of poor people and it is unfair to the vast majority of poor people that remain without help. I mean yes that's a shortfall, and the main reason I think government help should replace charity in most cases - so it can actually reach everyone. But in the absence of that I'm not going to be happy if a charitable organization is shut down because now poor people are more equal since a small percentage of them isn't getting help anymore.

Well... Things go pretty predictable after IPO: first increased number of DLC per year, then drop of quality, then drop of entertainig value of DLCs, now price increase with worst possible PR move (by large amount, without notifications, with "purchasing power increase" reason when everyone see themselfs it's going down). I was moaning for long hoping something can be done to return PDX to positive path, but now I'm tired. Perhaps they will make profit of this move, perhaps they decided that it's too many negative comments in game forums, so the less people buy game, the less will be comments (or those comments would worth more). I don't care. I just know that PDX I loved is dead and now it's a zombie like thousands of other studios. Hope one day a group of talanted developers will find their way to a new living body.

P.S. I can't say for sure if I would buy anything or not or only with 90% discounts. I just know that when I was visiting my friend and played Sims3, I was quite entertained and wanted to buy it. But when I saw it's price with all DLC included I said "no way" and spent that money on many other good games and never regret it.

Well, this is devastating. Paradox Interactive strategies are my leisure time. If the tendencies continue, it will be much joyous to buy keys for lootboxes in Rocket Leage (and they're getting cheaper in RU zone). It makes me sad.

charity and equity cannot be used in the same sentence imo ,charity overall is good short term but bad long term and thats why im anti-charity + when you take into consideration most of the money gets "lost" in administrative things heh, Equity though if done properly could be implemented everywhere with a good outcome for 90 % of people

People need to read about purchasing power. It has nothing to do with minimum wage or average salary. It has to to do with how much is one unit of currency worth!

This is effected by economic factors, inflation, trade, ect ect. The price of candy used to be 1 cent in Canada and then it rose to 5 and now 10. Yet the REAL price is actually the same. Because we have more money it is worth less and so prices rise as the quantity of money rises.

I calculated price change for Turkish region in base games:
eu4 ₺59.00 » ₺87.99 ₺+28.99 (49.14%)
hoi4 ₺75.00 » ₺87.99 ₺+12.99 (17.32%)
vic2 ₺31.00 » ₺43.99 ₺+12.99 (41.90%)
stellaris+dlcs same.
ck2+dlcs same.

eu4 old dlcs +9, new dlcs +13 liras.
hoi4 dlcs +9.

I must say that these prices are too much for Turkish region. Even if you don't care dlc price changes, base game prices for eu4 and vic2 increased TOO MUCH.
This will make Paradox games inaccessible for lot of players.
Just for comparison:
Minimum monthly wage in Turkey: ₺1400.
And old game like EU4: ₺90.

What you can do with ₺90 in Turkey as a university student?

1. You can eat lunch 9 times. (low to mid quality)
2. You can go to cinema to watch at least 7 movies.
3. You can pay your monthly electricity bill for 3 people family.
4. You can pay your 2 monthly water bill for 3 people family.
5. You can drink Venti - Caramel Macchiato 8 times.
5. Witcher 3 price: ₺60. - just compare how its unfair.

And compare these with current price for Mandate of Heaven dlc - ₺44.

For example I am frequent buyer of Paradox games, I will never buy Mandate of Heaven until it gets -%75 on Steam. And it will be same for me with new dlcs.
People on our Turkish EU4 Community group generally says, after huge inflation hit in local Turkish markets, games became even more luxury. So this price increase is so timeless.
Turkish purchasing power is really low now.

Edit: They also increased ck2 and stellaris price to ₺87.99. Looks like noone will buy anymore. Sad.
I was planning to buy Stellaris.

Is that some kind of a bad joke I'm not getting?

Alirght, let's see, this is what EU4 prices currently look like:
yKP9efZ.png

1399+9485.75=10884.75 roubles. The average (median) salary in Russia as of 2016 is 22729 roubles/month. In other words, if an average person from Russia was to buy EU4 with all the DLCs at full price, he/she would have to pay 48% of his/her monthly income. Does that look sane and sound to you?

If you were
to make our prices match the purchasing power of those areas
then EU4 with all the DLCs should cost ~1660USD in the US - a price of 675 gallons (2555 litres) of gas, well more than enough to fully fuel an Abrams tank and ride 400km in it.

To add an insult to an injury, this shit wasn't even announced in advance and was done right before Summer sales, leaving no chance to buy games at their previous (lower prices).

Arrrr, good job Paradox, fetch me the booty, lads!

Average Hungarian wage is equivalent to 668€. EU4+all DLC would cost 310.74€ which is 46.5% of the average salary. But Bulgaria has it the worst. They have 413€ as average monthly wage and pay the same amount, that is 310.74€. So they pay a whopping 75.2% of the average wage. That is insane!!

Purchasing power and inflation

Purchasing power (sometimes retroactively called adjusted for inflation) is the number and quality or value of goods and services that can be purchased with a unit of currency. For example, if one had taken one unit of currency to a store in the 1950s, it is probable that it would have been possible to buy a greater number of items than would today, indicating that one would have had a greater purchasing power in the 1950s. Currency can be either a commodity money, like gold or silver, or fiat money emitted by government sanctioned agencies.
