Apparently, these things aren't connected to each other and this is the reason to be upset ('cause if they were, we won't have such a problem now). As for me, playing in game without using DLC's like being married without having sex regularly. And if I were novice and I saw how many additional content this game had, I would never think that it may be enjoyable to play this without any DLC.

Well, now you know how the majority of the players feels then. Most people in Western Europe or America can't justify buing EU4 + all dlc at full price whenever they want to try a new game either, so it's not a good argument for Paradox to reverse the price increase

To be completely honest with all the people citing equity as the main reason Russian prices are so damn criminal towards all european pdx fans , Brazil has a lower average wage than Russia still pays 7 euros more atm and paid more before the increase in price , Ukraine has a way lower average wage than Russia still pays about the same amount as russia, do you think your crying has any real meaning to it? any reason? I would say it does , but only if you're playing on a Potato and can't afford food , but since you're playing EU IV/(other paradox games) you must be living an average russians or above life since EU IV/(other paradox games) isn't a game that can run on a potato , this is just a case of "oh damn, i can't spend as much money on other things now aka . i can't pretend im western european ;__; what will i do"

Globalisation is bad because people think they can live a life of someone with a better standard of living than them when they actually can't ,which means more arguements starting with "the prices are too high" ,when its really like "oh but i want this one thing so if you could lower your prices or ill boycott your product yea?"
note: im not saying im not to blame for the same exact thought process im critiquing here

Wrong. Stop making assumptions about people. I'm from Lebanon, a third world middle eastern country that has worse average wages than Russia and yet we don't have a Steam region to ourselves, so I have to pay the full ROW price for all games. But there are two kinds of reactions people can have when faced with adversity. There are those who go "That is painful, and I do not want others to suffer the same way - so I will try to make the world a better place for them because no one should be in the situation I am in", and then there are those that go "Well, if I've suffered, why shouldn't they? So I will try to make the world as miserable as possible so others will understand my pain". I'm sorry that you, and all the other posters who seem to think Russia are getting it too easy because other third world countries pay full price, fall in the second category. However, please stop using us as an excuse.

Steam pricing schemes are not a means for distributive justice. In relation to pdox we are customers, not constituents. So all this talk of equality, equity and the like is misplaced.
That being said, revelling in your fellow forumites not getting a deal that adequately takes into account their countries' purchasing power and thus effectively cuts them out is kinda messed up.

People here saying "OMG... but Country X was paying less than me" is why the world sucks.

Funny they complain "Stop complaining of having to pay more. You guys just don't wanna pay the full price, you're greedy" While what they are doing is exactly complaining of having to pay more than other countries.

The irony is lost in their self absorption. They only cared about themselves. "If I can have it I don't care if others can or can't."

Someone before quoted something Louis C.K. say to his Daughter... and it's so true... yet almost anyone follows. (Myself included sometimes)

Louis C.K. said:
The only time you look in your neighbor’s bowl is to make sure that they have enough. You don’t look in your neighbor’s bowl to see if you have as much as them.

Weird that they choose to adjust the price of their games that were already out for years.
I'd understand it a bit more if instead they waited to apply this new price policy for upcoming games only.

I'll certainly be more picky regarding which DLCs to purchase from now on. At those prices, I can't get myself to purchase them simply to support PDS.

People here saying "OMG... but Country X was paying less than me" is why the world sucks.

Your statement is probably not directed at me but if it is let me clarify my post, as i did compare the US to Canada. I don't really care if Americans pay less than i do, as Canada is a great country and i can generally afford what i want. I also don't care about the price increase as price increases are inevitable. What bothered me was the statement from someone at Paradox that they are making their prices match purchasing power.

Well now I'm being lied to or someone has bad information. That is what bothers me. I used an article from the Globe and Mail, a respected newspaper in Toronto. They state annual incomes are the same in both countries while the cost is living is remarkably cheaper in the US. However there are other examples on google. Not to mention they are our neighbors, i have friends and family living in the US, I know firsthand what the cost of living is like on both sides.

The facts would indicate a price drop in Canada, if you're going to match purchasing power and not raise prices in the US. So why lie to your Canadian consumers? It obviously has nothing to do with matching purchasing power.

Yeah like CK2 DLC really needed a price increase. This is really going to backfire on Paradox.

To buy CK2 + all DLC = £237.84 (€275)

Steam is highway robbery for all games when it comes to regular price.

Not really surprised / annoyed with ~15% Canadian increase, since we were cheaper than U.S.

It isn't really justified for older titles though, like EU3 complete which is slightly less than 40 U.S. dollars.

Your statement is probably not directed at me but if it is let me clarify my post (...)

Oh no... It wasn't. I agree with what you said previously. I realize what I said was a little confusing reading it back now.

My comment was toward the people saying "Country X was paying 10 dollars for a DLC I paid 15... that was unfair. Now it's right".

Besides this argument being narcissistic and selfish. Because direct conversion from dollar to local currency doesn't take into account the economy of the country, the local market, and the purchasing power of the population. It's hypocritical as well... because they are doing the same thing they are accusing people here complaining about the price increase of doing. (complain about the "fairness" of the price)

Average monthly wage in Russia is 39300sh rubles. Average US monthly wage is 3800 USD.

Oh wow. So 700 USD vs 3800 USD. Then there is the 13% tax rate in russia vs 30% in US. That breaks it down to 610 USD (rus) VS 2660 USD (US)

Average rent in russia is recorded at 14500 rubles in Archangelsik, 260 USD. US rent for an equivelent city is about 850 USD. Rent seems to be a larger portion of expense in Russia.
That leaves 350ish USD in purchase power for average Russian and 1810 USD for americans.

It costs 22$ for Stellaris Galaxy Edition in Russia and 70$ in USD. So 6% of the russian free-wages and 4% of the average US free wages (per month)

Russians pay 1.5x more in relation to their total wage than Americans, but Americans pay 2.7x more for the same product.

Seems reasonable. Naturally any price increase is a 'bad' price increase. US has probably capped its software prices because 70$ is generally the max a person will reasonably pay. Its a weird-cultural thing. With a lack of disks and physical merch though, could probably decrease price. But PDX is publicly traded now, so that would not be a good idea.

outside of Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and oil and gas fields average wage is more like 15-25 thousand rubles. Archangelsk is a normal city in Russia and has much lower rent costs than big cities. food is also very expensive (unless your getting shitty food) in Russia.

You can calculate average salaries and costs of living in Russia all you want but all that matters is price perception. I think having price as low as it was helped establish a market for their games in Russia and Paradox just ruined it in one fell swoop.
I'm sure their sales department is full of very educated people who know everything about the numbers and how to manipulate them but seem to know very little about Russian people and how they view prices.

P.S. Oh and people saying "oh you had it all so cheap, you deserve having prices raised". You know what's cheaper than buying the game at 50-75% of what you are paying? Not buying it at all and finding something else to play. Paradox games are not the pinnacle of game making.

100 customers * 799 rubles = 79 900 rubles
10 customers * 1580 rubles = 15 800 rubles
Nice mathematics.
I was planning buy PoE with season pass. I have some money in steam wallet. Now I shall spent this money for something else. This is so frustrate.

Average monthly wage in Russia is 39300sh rubles. Average US monthly wage is 3800 USD.
This is not a correct average. It's like "Let's take 500 people from Detroit outskirts, 499 from Arizona and Donald Trump." I bet average wage will be a number with four zeroes in it. Unlike other countries, Russia got only one real economical centre, and that's Moscow with 10mil population. Wages there usually twice as high as in the rest of the country, yet the cost of living there is higher too.

Stop making assumptions about people. I'm from Lebanon, a third world middle eastern country that has worse average wages than Russia and yet we don't have a Steam region to ourselves, so I have to pay the full ROW price for all games.
Russia was among the first regions on Steam to introduce regional currency and regional prices because Valve saw it would increase the sales and were damn right. Before 2012 I bought like 3-5 games on Steam in a year, usually during heavy discounts. If every publisher would do that Paradox did and double the price of everything this would just cripple the market. After devaluation of Russian Rouble and financial crisis of 2014-2016 Steam remained a sort of safe harbor in the storm as prices here remained mostly reasonable, especially for Paradox titles.

So wait, the only ones supposedly not effected are the North Americans? They have for years got all the games cheaper than Europeans as the games always converted 1 EUR=1 USD.

Regional pricing was one of reasons people were hooked on Steam. Sure, it cause a lot of problems like inter-region "gifting", VPNs and other things. But as of late, Steam already hammered those down and done it in a hard way. No more inter-region gifts, VPN abuse can result in very unpleasant consequences.
But now, a lot of of Publishers start messing with regional prices. Where, buying a an official release, like 10 years ago, was treated as a "goodwill" toward Developer.
Now 1-year old HoI4 without addons cost 1400 Rubles while fresh triple-A releases cost start 1500 rubles and common price being around 2000. And fresh Endless Space 2 cost 700 Rubles with after-EA price increase.
Really, Paradox, really?
