Im sure we would expect the same reaction from fans, if Bethesda decided to have dwarves reappear from space with guns as a DLC.
For skyrim fans that would be a matter of ruining lore.

For fans of this game, its a punch in the face to the notion that Paradox makes decent historical games. So its understandable why people would dislike this DLC and not buy it, and complain of course.

Or a game about the Wild West having a DLC about zombies.

Considering how many people (particularly those who started with Oblivion or Skyrim) over at the official Bethesda forums ask for the Dwemer to return or want the Dwemer mystery solved (even though it already has been) I imagine the outcry would be minimal (There is space-related stuff in the lore and Dwemer could conceivably construct guns if they were still around) but I see the point you're trying to make, as I'd probably be one of the people outraged by it.

Having said that, I'm still looking forward to this quirkly, completely optional add-on that'll make my games in Western Europe a little more interesting when I feel like turning it on.

I'm not as angered now that it seems all the DLC is is the invasion. I was thinking it was going to be sort of like SoI which would make Pagans playable and add content to them. But since its just the Invasion, eh, it is what it is funny more than anything, may buy it just to see what happens lol, but i don't know.

PI sure did do a good job kicking the proverbial hornet's nest with this one.

Hmm i know i the only right i have is to not buy it and shut up but still without expecting anything else anymore, i still think this is a horrible wate of very limtied coding resources on a game i still love. :-( 2 years ago id have been pissed, now i am just said this whole DLC thing just seems to go the way i always feared... :-(

For one, what a terrible argument. I really don't want content in my game that took no effort. Two, regardless of how much effort it took, unless Paradox is capable of far greater than anyone imagines, it had to take some amount of time that could have been used making some actual gameplay changes, such as pagan availability or that nagging 'Fatimid controlling all of Europe'.

But, y'know, I suppose you're right, we don't have to pay for it.

Gamers really are the most entitled people in the world. :D There's another DLC also in the works that will likely be pagans or theocracies or something. They appear to have been two separate teams. Big DLCs take longer, so that one isn't ready yet. Sheesh. :D

Read what they say before you comment. This point has been re-trodden over and over again. This does not affect the DLC schedule in any way, and was just a little thing on the side. Not having it would've made no difference to Theocracies etc (though personally I'd like not to see republics/theocracies playable but that's by-the by).

Paradox have said that it didnt take any time away from anything else. Also you are blatantly lying when you say that most people defending the dlc are saying that "it took no effort so its K"
What a majority of the defending people are saying is actually "If you dont want it, dont buy it". In other words, vote with your wallet, not with inane whining that ultimately isnt going to help anyone at all.

They ARE working on the new DLC - Sunset Invasions is just a smallish side job.

That is true and people seem to miss that no matter how much people repeat it. However, I still feel that perhaps their smallish side jobs would be better received and be more meaningful for the game if they expanded on mechanics and things that make sense for the setting and direction of the game.
If they had spare time and the desire to create things like interesting events, plots, little personal diplomacy additions (invite a friend or potential friend, specifically, to . . . I don't know, pick flowers, hunt, whatever, things that can tie into plotting down the line etc.), bits and bobs for portraits of current cultures, ninja turtles, even more music or what have you then that would, at least for me, be something I wouldn't hesitate to buy as an aside to other things bigger DLC. I mean, I already do pick up music packs, coat of arms DLC and such.

I have to say though, and people whom are particulary against how ahistorical this is probably wouldn't agree, but personally I think if they really wanted to add Aztecs then it would be more interesting if it was a bigger, much more fleshed out, not to mention playable addition.
I'm all for creating ways to change the dynamic to make the game play a bit differently, and it being ahistorical isn't a huge deal for me, but then this seems to -- so far -- just be a stack of doom with some new art. It seems underwhelming, although perhaps that's because it also seems so random. I don't know. It could also be because afaik there isn't much aside from this Destructoid article to tell us about this, and it really doesn't say much at all.

How come the defense of most people here seems to be: Well, it took practically no effort to make whatsoever, so really you're not losing anything.

What they're saying is scripting and modeling is a different job from hard core coding. And it really can't be done until the coding is done.

The scripters and modelers were idle because they had to wait for the coders to finish on the bigger DLC. So instead of having them sit around on facebook all day, they made this instead. Which is great, because we get something extra.

Think about a crew building a house. The electricians can't do anything until the house frame is built. So having them work on a different project while the frame guys work doesn't slow anything down. They can't do anything on it anyway until the frame is done.

So it's not that it didn't take any work to create. It's that that work didn't slow down the other work in the pipeline.

Not that any of this matters. Neither you, nor I, nor anyone else has any right to demand other people make things we like for us. Much less that they not make things other people like so they can work on the things we like instead. If you want something, create it yourself. Other people will create what they want, and we ought to be appreciative when we're so lucky that they make something we like and are willing to part with it.
