I'm playing a 1936 campaign as France. After beating back the Germans and liberating Europe in, I noticed a most peculiar problem.

American bombers were bombing my troops. America had joined the Axis.

The sequence of events, as best I can figure out, was as follows:
1. Germany had most of their force sitting along the extended maginot line and in Italy.
2. Russia smelled weakness and declared war on Germany, rolling over their eastern front like it wasn't there. I did manage to beat them to Berlin.
3. Russia already had a significant Beli and this DoW pushed them over 80, so America declared war on Russia.
4. America was not already in an alliance, so they joined up with the only alliance currently at war with Russia - The Axis.

My solution would be simple, albeit somewhat ahistorical. America would have its own alliance with its puppets like Russia does. There would be events for them to jump into WW2 with. These events would allow America dissolve their alliance and join the Allies. A more elegant solution might just be to not make it possible for America to join the Axis, something I'm sure is in the power of the programmers.

IMO, it's much worse for game balance and historical accuracy for America to join the Axis than few other things. I am having to invade AMERICA as FRANCE in order to end the war and it's seriously an uphill battle. Japan also finally joined the American Axis, although they wont be much of an issue because I'm pretty sure Russia is going to rip their mainland holdings to shreds.

In my "Canadian Bacon" game, Canada invaded the US after they joined the Axis around 1942... and was constantly gaining territories.
After finishing off with Germany, my French divisions helped the valiant Canadians take the few remaining provinces (Newark,NY,Washington,LA,Alaska) and then I proceeded with the invasion of the Pacific isles and Phillipines.

USA was annexed by Canada.

It really, REALLY sounds bizzare: Canadians annexing the US with the help of the French... Damn, I should've written an AAR about it!

<edit>Japan was too busy fighting the Soviets in Mongolia and lost almost all of their western Asian territories to Nat-China...

Let's just say the history have chosen another path.

It was unlikely the US would join the Axis, but not impossible. That's why it doesn't happen in 9 out of 10 games, but in 1 out of 10 - because the historical possibility WAS there...
