I'm hoping that these have been fixed. In fact, this was one of my big disappointments while playing Stellaris for the first time. My ruler died without an heir and then I thought oh sweet a civil war.

I looked at the factions and there was the pretender. Didn't have enough influence to suppress him so I waited...and waited....and waited!

The pretender civil war never happened! I was greatly disappointed!

In every game where I played an empire with heirs I never had a pretender civil war.

So I'm wondering has anyone else experienced a pretender civil war?

...That's a thing in Stellaris?
Yes. There was a chance of them happening if there wasn't an heir, the problem is that there was a daily chance of 5(?)% that a new heir would be selected so it never actually happened.

True, but one of the greatest downsides for Authoritarian regimes especially the hereditary variety is that even if you have an heir there may still be succession wars upon the death of your leader. So I think that it would nicely expand the game if they included them in some form, for Imperial authority obviously.

Is there an upside for Imperial? Democracies get to farm the most Influence from mandates if you're willing to cheese your mining and research stations, and all authorities except for Imperial get to pick the best leader. What does Imperial bring to the table?

I've never even been at a risk of a civil war/rebellion/what ever outside of strikes, so this is all news to me
As a warhammer fan, galaxy wide civil wars are kinda my "fetish" :p

No fear that factions will enforce their will upon you without a civil war I presume, due to faction leaders being unable to become Monarchs. Maybe they got some other bonuses as well.

Perfectly though, they should have easier time beating up unwanted factions and an ability to train their heirs, and I hope those features get implemented eventually.

The event is there, but it is near impossible to trigger them. The chance to get an heir is 1% comulative per day. In practice you have an heir before the month finishes.
I asume that means the event is currently abandoned and is not supposed to trigger or do anything.

So 1% on the first day without an heir, 2% on the second, and so on and so forth until you are guaranteed an heir on the hundredth day?
Might not have been cumulative after all. I am sure it was daily however. No point in checking that right now, however. After all, later today it is another game.

I'd support these kinds of events. Honestly, when the game launched I thought that civil wars and infighting between factions in an Empire would actually be a thing. The rebellions don't really count to me. I'm talking about a full on (or multiple) split in an empire and it's forces/leaders for control. Trying to keep your Empire (or democracy) together while fending off aggressive alien empires, courting factions for influence and support.

As much as I'm sure there is a segment of players who would hate to see their big, shiny empires get all broken up such a mechanic would add some life and more depth to the game. Most events and actions in the game seem tied to your interactions with other alien empires and not within your own.

I mean it shouldn´t happen "every" time, but yeah would be nice if it happened.
With that said I feel the Imperial system is quite a bit inferior to the democratic ones....would be nice if it felt a bit more even.

Also supporting giving them a bit more teeth.

What with the new faction system out now I hope they also take a look at using it in terms of bettering pretender civil wars.
