I have 2 ideas of how to make Prestige a factor.

1. Requirement for creating titles

Creating titles should require prestige AND piety. Not cost, require! At least if the new title is higher then your current toptier. I makes no sence that and 16 year old multi- king creates a Empire when at negative prestige.... And to compare between creating a De-Jure Empire for "Free" and a custom empire for the ouraging 8000 prestige makes absolutely no sence in my mind! :) Suggest that creating a de jure empire would require 4000 prestige and kost the same as today. The custom could go down to 6000 prestige. Too hard to live long enough to reach the magic 8000.

Even lower titles should require prestige to create. A dejure kingdom maybe 750, comparing the required 1000 for creating a custom kingdom?

A dejure duchy... Hm... Maybe require 200 prestige? (There really should be a "Create custom duchy"! But that´s another thing!)

This is not costs -just require to have it!

2. Leadership traits - what kind of ruler are you?

Other factors prestige could do is unlocking "ruler-traits". There could be several different traits that can be bought for prestige - prestige that is then transferred to score directly(to make it even worth "upgrading" the ruler traits of your senior 75+ ruler). The "ruler-trait" could scale simelar to the "Viking" standard with 3 direct upgrades, costing you maybe 1000/2500/5000 prestige.

Ideas for the straits could be
  • "Rule by Knowledge" is the diplomatic and defence intrigue shool.
  • "Rule by Quality" could be a stewarship and defensive martial school.
  • "Rule by Force" could be a martial and defensive diplomacy school.
  • "Rule by Tyranny" is the Intrigue and stewardship school.
Missing learning? It is required to have for all of them! At least beyond the first tier! :) Othervize feel free to expand the list!

As prestige certainly is a 'factor'. You can get up to +10 general opinion with 2000+ prestige and this means you get more vassals, more tax revenue, and are more likely to have people go along with your decisions. Furthermore there are several casus belli that cost prestige in order to use, particularly among nomads.

I think that the new bloodlines mechanic could be a great way for you to translate prestige into long-term benefit in a way that makes sense.
However, your doddering 75 year old leader isn't going to perform better stat-wise simply because he's got more prestige from being around longer. He will however be more respected (hence prestige + long rule opinion bonus).

Concept is good. Creating new titles should have more factors, so "prestige as factor" can be good start. You can create a title, but the world may not accepted it, therefore "prestige-factor" could simulate the situation "the world recognized you as a prince/king/emperor X"
