Hello,

Was a Duke in England I invited into my court someone to press his claim of Desmond. I went to Desmond, won the war and it was mine and the claiment was my vassal.

Problem is, everyone else whos claim I press, they pick up on the claim and becoming independent instead of becoming my vassal. What am I missing?

Honsou.

Not sure what other claims you might have pressed but it sounds like you might have press for a rank that was equal or greater then your own, say if you press for a duchy that new duke will be the same rank as you so sure he would not want to be your vassal :)

Sometimes its screwed up, either a problem with game mechanics or the tooltip. As the King of Ireland I pressed someone claim for a duchy in scotland, the tooltip clearly read that I would become their new liege, but they became an independent duchy. Save before every war is the best advice I can give.

If you press somebody's claim on a title that is the same as your highest tiered title: They will NEVER be your vassal, regardless.

If you press the claim of somebody on a province that is in your De Jure realm for one of your titles: They will ALWAYS be your vassal.

If you press the claim of somebody of your dynasty: They will ALWAYS be your vassal.

Number 1 supersedes the others. The others are the only situations where people whose claims you press become your vassal.

Also, the tooltip is cluttered because it lists "They will become your vassal:" then lists the conditions. It's a wording problem, not a bug.

There is another aspect in addition to those ChronoMaster listed:

If they already are your vassal, and the claim you pressed does not outrank the title they are currently holding, they remain your vassal. If the title they gain outranks there old, and they wouldn't become your vassal as ChronoMaster listed, you lose them.

So if you are a duke, you can get a county as vassal by inviting a claimant to your court, then granting the claimant one of your counties, and finally pressing his claim on another county. The claimant remains your vassal.

If you are a king, and one of your (non-bloodline) counts holds a claim to a duchy outside your de jure realm, then if you help your count to become a duke, he becomes independent.

I haven't tried this with duke vassals yet, but I expect them to remain as vassals.

This seems weird to me. If I'm a king and I press one of my count's claim to become a duke, he should remain my vassal. Why would I go to war on behalf of someone to free him from my vassalage?

There seems to be an additional rule: If you are a king, you can press count titles wherever you want. They will always be your vassal, even if they'd only been courtiers before.
At least, this works in my current game as the king of Burgundy. Can someone else confirm it?

All of the HRE is one dynasty and you can do that are you doing that outside of the HRE.

You mean, the HRE counts as my de-jure realm for the purposes of this mechanic? I suspected that, too, when I was only pressing claims inside the empire. However, it also worked on the counties of Auvergne (which is definitely de jure France) and Capua (which is Sicily, I think?). In both cases, I invited claimants, they became my courtiers, I went to war, made peace, and they were my vassals.
