Comes out 8 A.M. here. No problem with that except the amount of time it'll take to download/install. Oh well.
I've added a steam/johan timetable on the first page of this thread.
Using the "Verify game cache" will make steam check everything in the common/europa universalis IV folder and check if they are the same as the most recent update to the game. If some files are corrupt, containing incorrect information or missing, steam will download those files.
I've never tried using it like this, but the few times I've accidentally deleted or changed files it has worked as a charm.
And if paradox have done the same thing as they did for the CK2 demo, the EUIV demo is an out of date version of the release with some coding to prevent it from being played forever. All other files and folders are in there.

Trust me, much larger and more well known games have been released on Steam without a hitch. Everything should be fine as far as servers being too strained goes.
I really don't think just placing the demo files in an EUIV folder on steam will work. For one, I don't think it'll actually register the game as installed if you do that, and you can't verify game cache until it is.
Preload may be good but when i usually preload a game i cannot play it. So i have to reload the game. I don't think that Steam servers will have any collapses. The last time i've had problems with Steam was when i've bought TES V Skyrim. After this i don't remember any problems.
I think that steam first looks through the relevant folders before downloading, checking for existing files.
Using the demo files for that would probably only be worth it if the download speed is atrouciously slow, which in my experience only happens on steam when there's a really big release, which EU4 isn't.

Get a modern internet connection and it takes a couple minutes to download. Sorry to all of you living in backwards countries(australia) but you probably shouldn't live in a desert if you want convenience.

Well, EU4 is relativly small, so i see no problem with no pre-loading. It will be the size of demo +- 100 MB, unless you have some DLCs.
I don't live anywhere near a desert.
I don't think moving to another country is really an option for most people, nor is it a legitimate decision based on the speed of downloading a game.
I also don't get how you can download the game in a couple of minutes with any connection, unless you have a lot of money to burn for internet services.
Not my fault you live on an ice farm in Minnesota and can't sell your popsicle crop for enough money to move to a place where humans reside.
