Hi there,
I'm playing my first run through of Crusader Kings 2 and I'm very much enjoying it!

I have just assassinated my brother in order to inherit his county which currently has Agnatic-Cognatic Gavelkind succession.
The assassination went through in the nick of time as his wife/widow is pregnant.

My question is: when the child is born will he inherit the county or have strong claims to it? I need to know whether I should be trying to dispose of his widow or not ;)

Cheers,
Ross

Only on the CKII forum can one end a question about murdering a pregnant widow with a smiley face and cheers ;)
Haha, indeed. I can't think of many forums where this question would be so warmly received!

He will get a strong claim to it (if its a son).
Since you already own it he cant inherit the county.

Thanks Damorte. I can't be having any strong claimants to my throne knocking about... I'm thinking that my late brother's widow would make a great wife for my best friend, and coincidently, co-conspirator ;)

Also, he'll love you since you're his fave uncle. Just marry him to a courtier with good traits and farm the results ;)

So you're suggesting that I let the child live? Apologies for my ignorance but what are the benefits of 'farming' him?

Also, I think there should be an option for the widow to receive an accidental heavy blow to the stomach rather than an outright assassination.

The benefits are that you can use him as a good, liege-loving vassal, as he's of your dynasty, and that he can potentially inherit things outside the realm. That is, if it's a he.
If it's a she, matri-marry her to someone with good stats, possibly even claims, and have her have children loaded with claims and/or good traits which you can use to further expand your realm. Generally, kinsmen and women are good bargaining chips and they let you collect lots of high-stats people from around the world. Killing them isn't really useful as they really have no reason to pose a threat to you, outside of factions that plan to install them (in which case you should kill the faction leader as he'll just back another claimant anyways)

I'd let her live just for RP reasons. For one, you are kind of killing a pregnant widow.

More importantly, having a nephew dispossessed of his inheritance by an uncle too callous to grant the realm to his dear departed brother's only son and rightful heir sets the stage for a nice emergent story arc.

Or, if it's a girl, hey, at least you get a free alliance. Though that might not be the best idea, as her husband will be able to press her claim on your title, and if it wasn't a matrilineal marriage it could be gone from your dynasty for good. But again, spurned heir, emergent storytelling, etc.

Best thing for You is to make marriage with claimant (strong one) to other territory so heirs would belong Your dynasty (with weak claim, but still claim - remeber if You push claims for Your dynasty they will became Your vassal if You got higher title;). Then to keep nephew calm make him mayor or bishop - his title will still count to Your dynasty score (not personal, but dynasty one from family tree) and he shouldn't be problem anymore ;)

I have another quick question. My liege/Duke has sent me to a neighbouring county to train troops. I'm therefore classified as abroad. Does this affect my ability to produce offspring of my own?

Not at all. You magically still have those fun evening times with your wife, even if you're hundreds of kilometres away.

You can also save the child for yourself for... lets say... future uses if your wifey happens to die and the child turns out to be a girl :D

All incest is relative.
