I am looking for some guidance/ help regarding the remaining Pre-Sapients in the empire of my current Ironman game.

I'm not sure which information is necessary to help you help me and I do not want to burden you with every little last detail of my game.

I am playing Fanatic Xenophobe & Materialist on a Medium galaxy at Cadet difficulty. I picked the GENETICS path because...reasons. As soon as I researched the 'Uplift' tech I wanted to uplift the Pre-Sapients in my empire. But when I went to the SPECIES tab they were nowhere to be found. I went to the planets they called home and they were still living there. But when I clicked on their Species Name link/ button on their Planet tab which takes me to the SPECIES tab they were still not there. None of the Pre-Sapients listed in my notification icon at the top of my screen were present.

I figured that maybe I had forgotten that another tech is needed to uplift them so I kept playing. It was only after I started upgrading my species and those that I acquired that I noticed that my Pre-Sapients started to disappear. I had had seven Pre-Sapients but now only have three left. I have not lost any planets and thought that I would not be able to colonize any of their planets as that is what has happened in other games.

What I did wrong (and did not know I was doing it wrong until just now) is that as a Fanatic Xenophobe my Policies were automatically set to EXTERMINATE Pre-Sapients. So, I am assuming that I must have exterminated the four Pre-Sapients that I had had which are now gone when I settled or terraformed their worlds. Silly me. Live and learn...or in this case exterminate and learn.

But I would like to uplift the three Pre-Sapients that remain and have changed my Pre-Spaients Policy from EXTERMINATE to PROTECTED (I have also outlawed/ banned Slavery and given my former slaves the same living conditions as my species.) The problem I seek help with/ guidance for is that these last three remaining Pre-Sapients are still not showing up in my SPECIES tab for me to uplift. I own their planets and have even completely exited the game, restarted my PC (Restart NOT Shutdown) and still cannot get them to show in my SPECIES tab so that I can ruin their existence by uplifting them.

I am at a complete loss for what to do next toward this end. I would greatly appreciate any and all relevant ideas/ suggestions that will allow me to uplift these remaining Pre-Sapients. Thank you.

And thank you for your consideration.

Do you just own the system the presapient planet is in, or have you actually colonized the planet? I think you need to colonize the planet, or at least start the process by landing a colony ship, in order for the presapients to be shown in your empire species list.

Thank you kindly! This is exactly what I needed to do. If only I had known earlier before I wiped out those other four Pre-Sapients. Maybe Paradox can add a pop-up or something to let new players or less experienced players like me know important information like this? I will dare to dream.

Much obliged!

UPDATE:
It turns out that at least one of the four Pre-Sapients that I thought I had exterminated survived! They're a Toxoid species and they survived the terraforming of their Toxic planet after I adopted the DETOX Ascension Perk. They are now thriving as I spread their genetically altered bodies across my growing empire.

Fun fact: I terraformed their Toxic planet to an Ocean world and that seemed to alter their planetary preference to Ocean worlds even though they still read as being a Toxoid species. LOL! And it works out great for me as at least 20% of my worlds are Ocean planets. I will have to be mindful of the other worlds I colonize to see if the other missing Pre-Sapients were similarly altered.

(The ONLY planets I have terraformed are Toxic and Barren worlds. Because I have every Genetics based tech my species and those that I "acquire" can live AND thrive in ANY planetary environment.)

Thank you again for giving me the solution I was seeking!
