I'll have to agree, Galaxy edition IS a bad deal. Then again... it gives no in-game stuff, so you won't suffer if you don't buy it.
I wanted all in-game content, so I got the Nova instead. I figured I'd just end up buying any and all extra content at a later date anyway, just like with the EU4 pre-order stuff. 10 is worth it for me for the soundtrack and one additional race portrait. Not a great deal, but worth it.

The way I see it (and I am sure there will be those who disagree), is that the extra money I shelled out for the Galaxy version will at least be partly used for the future development of Stellaris. So by buying the Galaxy edition, I'm making a further investment over and above what was required for the base game.
Any swag Paradox decides to throw in as an incentive is secondary to me, though I always prefer additional in game content (even if cosmetic) over other bonuses.
The more financially successful Stellaris is, the more future support and expansions we will likely see.

That depends on the definition you use for AAA. It's quite a broad indicator, but since a few newer games(CK2, EU4, Cities skyline) of PI sold over or near a million copies I think we can call them that.
ill buy the expensive one because i want the books and to support paradox plus forum icon looks cool

Every ware has its market, I fully support this approach. If people want to pay more they are welcome. I am happy with my 39,99 purchase, price is apropriate and I do not feel I am missing out on anything that I would affect my enjoyment of this game.

Good! Pre-order content and upgraded editions (if it needs to exist at all) should be trivial. Forcing consumers to pay extra for excised parts of the game is shady business and malicious. A handful of quirky cosmetics is the limit of what is appropriate.

CK2 sold maybe 1.5 million over 4 years. It's not even in the same ballpark.

yea fair enough I got the galactic edition as didn't mind paying for the extra stuff and for me I know I will find the e-book and stuff pretty cool to go through while downloading the game (and I'm a sucker for wallpapers and icons)I bought the standard. I bought it without looking at what you get for it and the others. I bought it because I wanted the game at a price I could afford. So, seeing there actually was a bonus for the standard(I count the Creatures of the Void only) I was happy. The bonuses didn't affect my decision at all. I didn't expect to see much if anything. I'm just happy to be able to preorder it. I guess it takes less to make me happy than others.

I only bought the normal version, because it looked like the best value to me.
I don't have an ebook reader, I would only go through the art book like once, I will listen to the soundtrack in game a lot anyway and the additional alien avatar looks nice, but isn't worth the price for me.
So that left me with the normal version and I'm happy with that.

Stellaris book in paperback is £10. So the upgrade pays for itself if you want the book (like I do) and it saves me having to buy it seperate. Also means I get wallpaper, digital art book, etc too.

How...how is that nitpicky? What strawman? These are just numbers. Unless you have evidence to the contrary, it appears that Paradox sales numbers are dwarved by those of AAA numbers by an order of magnitude, if not more.

Ok let me explain. It is a strawman because the point of MY OP wasn't about the definition of AAA studio. The point was that other game developers would sell the game for 10 or 20 more dollars. I WAS NOT TRYING TO DEFINE AAA GAME STUDIOS.
A dev selling over a million copies of a game can be called AAA though. I used the expression in that way(as I said it clearly in my second post). I was not saying that they were as big as ubisoft. That comparison was made by you.

Just stick with base pre-order. Digital "Deluxe" preorders cant be really good anyway since they dont physical goodies aboard.

The higher cost versions are basically a tip jar for paradox.
That spider avatar is going to bug me though. I can't justify $10 for a spider portrait, but not having it will gnaw at me.
