Pre-orders thinking outside the box

In this age of Greenlight, Kickstarter projects and playable Alpha's and Beta's all over the place and given the fact that you have your own online store that you admit gives you more profit than copies distributed by other means I'm puzzled that on Pre-order date you didn't put an exclusive Galaxy+ edition for around £100 on the Paradox store offering the Galaxy package plus a downloadable copy of the latest stable Beta build for people to play right now?

Just imagine how much extra development money could have been brought in for the game by a deal like that, money that could have been used to help keep the cost of future Stellaris DLC low or even fund some free DLC that everyone could benefit from

Whether you call it Early Access, Pre-Order-Bonus, Open Beta or Closed Beta or Buy-in-Beta, it is bad marketing. You see the amount of bugs in the Blorg streams? There are enough dumb people to complain about that on every website that ever existed if they play the game in this state, because a lot of people are neither smart nor patient nor understand what they will get no matter how often you tell them.

So just be happy there are just two weeks left to wait for now

A few extra bucks wouldn't do a damn thing at this point. Paradox has enough money to finish the game in a schedule they see fit. And the amount of threats in this forum alone about "broken" things in Blorg stream is ridiculous, beta access would just make things worse.

I think the Paradox guys have said several times that they would not be doing a Demo or Open beta.

The Know did a really interesting video recently about the DOOM Open Beta, and the video goes on to discuss other companies who felt that Demos/Open Betas were bad ideas.

If you plan to making flashy quotes that doesn't have much more purpose than being flashy, then at least credit the source.

On topic: While it seems like a win-win situation (players get to play early, paradox get extra $ and beta testers) I think they don't want to risk causing controversy tied to a very important launch.

The "stable" beta version is likely containing bugs, I don't think they want to risk players complaining about paying extra for getting early acess for a potentially bad product (even if paradox makes clear that it will contain bugs). If they charge that much extra money for it then they would probably also feel that they need to do some maintaining of the "beta".

If you add up the time of making sure the beta is "playable", some maintainence time for it, I think they do not think it is worth it. Add to that that they can expect pretty much eveything in the "beta" to be leaked (and reducing the "magic" of the launch). I think they rather want to make sure that the launch is as good as possible.

To pay the full Prize for an un-finished and (probably) deficient Product is always a bad Motivation for a Company, because They would get their "Reward" before Doing their Job to create a finished and nearly Bug-free Game.

Yeah, I am happy to wait. I've bought plenty of Early Access, Beta access etc type games and, on the whole, they have been disappointing with the exception of Kerbal Space Program

I don't have a problem with early access, because everyone should know that there is a risk of having a non working game.
But this, in my opinion, would not fit to paradox. I like that paradox wants to release a finished, working game.
On the other side, I just buy early access game if I informed myself well enoug. Since now (luckily) I haven't had a bad experience :
Kerbal space program
Subnautica
Prison architect
Factorio
Invisible inc

Oh yeah, totally agreed. I never complained about the games and always allowed the devs the time to do their stuff, I knew what I was signing up for. Even when the games finished, I am often left underwhelmed though but "normal" AAA games can make me feel like that too!
