I like Steam, the social part isn't exactly facebook quality, but it isn't anywhere near as bad as it used to be, and it doesn't slow down your games when it runs in the background anymore. It's a totally different program compared to how it was when it first came out.

I haven't bought a physical cd in like two years, and I almost never pay ticket price for a game. The summer sales right now and selling like entire catalogs for 30-60 bucks. It's kind of cool to have bonus stuff and a physical box, but it's even more cool to just go and click download on your games list without having to hunt down an old cd.

Wait, facebook has quality? Since when? In my experience, facebook is just a bottleneck of too many people spamming crap like I got level 8 on Farmville.

Steam is great, espeically with it's weekend and holiday discounts every now and then, plus the auto-updating feature (sometimes annoying, but a simple mod can fix mistakes on games like Total War). Plus the ability to go to different PC's and install some of my games is also nice, instead of remembering some crappy CD.

I can't speak for GamersGate, but I want to consolidate my purchases to Steam. I hope Vicky and Vicky 2 and Vicky:Rev comes out on steam.

I would actually prefer standard box version, but I understand why it will not (probably) be released in box version.

There will be a boxed version right? They haven't gone fully digital yet.

The only reason I purchased games through Gamersgate previously was ONLY because I am under the impression that Paradox would get more money since Valve wouldn't be there to get their cut.

Other than that, Steam has never given me a problem but maybe one time over the entire time it has been out. You can play with or without Internet (as long as the game itself does not force you to have an Internet connection), you can easily consolidate all your games in one place, you can download pre-orders before the release day rush and be ready to play the moment the game is released, games are still mod-able, and lastly, chatting with friends when you chose to show your status online is great for multi player gaming. There is no downside to social networking of this type since you can turn it off permanently if it bothers you.

Now Gamersgate has been sold off from what I read and I will now just stick with Steam for future Paradox purchases.

Seriously, all the people whining about Steam seem like they have never even once used it. You cannot even complain about it using extra resources unless your computer is a Pentium III era POS.
