Your anti-social?

Ontopic: I think it would help the game sell among non-Vicky fans.

I am not sure about that. I bought the guild in one of those packs with old stuff and I have never tried the outdated game.

I think it definitely should be on steam to reach a wider audience. However I personally dont buy paradox games on steam (for everything else I do), as steam is a bit awkward when it comes to modding, and my experience with hoi3 on steam has turned me off (patches came late, start-up screen where you choose mods was removed) so I generally get them from gamers gate. Gamers gate is generally hands off - so it better for hacking about, but apart from that is a very substandard service.

I don't think a lot of people are going to be interested by this, though. I sure have no desire to go back to the old Victoria after this comes out, unless it miraculously (anti-miraculously?) sucks. It's like: buy a car and get a horse-and-buggy free!

Well you have to be connected to it to play your games. So a) if your internet's down and b) if it just refuses to connect, you're screwed.
They say you can play offline but that feature doesn't work, at least it didn't for me.

You haven't even tried steam, have you? You can play every game offline as far as it (the game) doesn't require it to be online, like CoH / AC2 etc. Tell me one reason why it shouldn't work the same way for you.

By the way, you haven't played Assassins Creed 2 then. :)
Good game, but sad they force you to be on an internet connection. Also if your internet suddenly breaks down, the game closes as well. Haven't tried it yet though, but it's damn annoying for those who have an unstable internet connection or don't have internet at all!

But that's Assassin's Creed 2's fault, not Steam's.

While it's all nice and dandy to discuss Steam qualities, coming back to the original topic, I have to agree with this post:

I don't think a lot of people are going to be interested by this, though. I sure have no desire to go back to the old Victoria after this comes out, unless it miraculously (anti-miraculously?) sucks. It's like: buy a car and get a horse-and-buggy free!

Something extra in pre-order version would be nice, but old Vicky would not net all that many people really. If it was boxed version, I would opt for picklehaube on the euro markets and confederate flag bandana for the US, but for the direct download store... I dunno.

Maybe giving the game in advance, a month or two before the release date, so if anyone hasnt played the original can do so, they did that with HoI3 and HoI2

For most games I don't have to mod I like Steam, but once theres a game I actually want to mod, I throw steam out the window. Long live Gamersgate!

You can mod any Paradox game you get from steam very easily: copy the game files out of the steam directory to a new directory. Edit the files. Enjoy.

Seriously, for Paradox games, all steam does is download and update it. There is ZERO requirement to be connected to the internet to play them, and ZERO problems modding them.

I second this statement. I like steam, but I like to tinker with Paradox titles, and it's easier to do that without Steam. But for anything else, steam is highly convenient.

Its not so relevant not to support steam, I agree with paradox using steam for distribution, smart guys wont use steam, thats it

The problem comes when some unaware guy buys a game from steam, and later he cannot mix his expansiones with other resellers (physical copy, gamersgate, impulse, etc)

So my concern is, if paradox is going to use steam, at least try to make every copy able to mix with each other, in order not to have the same problems of HOI3 where you must buy SF from the same shop you bought HOI3

You haven't even tried steam, have you? You can play every game offline as far as it (the game) doesn't require it to be online, like CoH / AC2 etc. Tell me one reason why it shouldn't work the same way for you.

I have several games from steam, and never found any one you can play offline, anyway this is irrelevant, you have freedom for making your choice, the problem is when unaware guys get trapped on steam, which offers an inferior quality service, and is forced to continue getting inferior quality services or buying again a new copy from gamersgate/impulse

flecha224 you must be a very big noob. I can disconnect from the internet right now and use Steam to play. If you don't have internet, then you must be a big idiot to buy from a digital store like Steam. Steam is a great service.

I guess I'm an idiot. Thanks for revealing the truth, smart internet guy "flecha224".
I think it's stupid as well...

I always enjoy getting cool stuff with a collector's edition or pre-order; has Paradox actually announced anything, though?

Also what's up with the vitriol? I like and use Steam and I'm sure Gamersgate is a fine service as well. Paradox sells titles on both, and they make a profit off of both, so what's the difference?

No. It seems like we have to go with just a normal version.

I don't know. I own 3 games on Gamersgate, but most on Steam.
