If you're going to buy it then why not? It is Paradox who have a proven track record, so there is no need to wait for reviews (which is the only reason I can think of why not to pre-order).

when, last August I believe, I saw that this game was coming I knew then I would pre-order it. Very little information at that time, aside from: Paradox is going to do a 4X space game. That was enough for me. I have loved Paradox games, even though they are very complicated for me to grasp. I will pre-order it whether or not there are incentives, to just have the "buying" of it out of the way. I have a couple of Races ready to use, and am about to make another... going to try to set up a truly evil race intent on ruling the galaxy through sword and fire. I like to attack these games from several angles. I have been burned in the past by pre-ordering, pre-ordered a game once that I never played. It was broken out of the box. I had a new computer and could not even get the game to load. So, is there a risk? Yes. But.. this is Paradox and I feel that they will launch a product that may need some tinkering, what game doesn't, but will be a playable and very enjoyable game out of the "box". Being a steam game there is no need for a box.

On the HOI forum they did mention it wasn't going to have a demo. And considering the reason they stated, it does seems like Stellaris also won't.

There won't be a demo. Our previous experiences has shown that it doesn't work well at all for us with our expansion and patching policy.

So, they start at 17:00 with a two hour stream and something, they will reveal on stream ... the stream ends at exactly 19:00 Stockholm time. Exactly the same time, steam updates it's shop ...

Well...might be, I'm not sure what else they could announce there. Release dates are known for weeks, first DLCs won't come until months later, with the first one being in an early project state if they are thinking about it at all before the game is released...

it did, few places within walking distance(no car/bus routes to said place) where I could pick up said game. would have to have it mailed to me. Rather have good old Steam redirect the wormhole directly to my computer.

I agree , but... I have had problems with pre-orders, so I understand why he might be apprehensive about it and not understand why people would do it. Sometimes the game that we become hyped about and the game that is launched are two different beasts. I have been burned on pre-orders. However I trust Paradox, so I will take the chance.

The hysteria and shady practices surrounding preorders is really disturbing, that's why. It's serves as a vehicle for exploitative anti-consumer practices.
