Pre-loading. WE MUST PLAY THE MOMENT THE COUNTDOWN STRIKES 00:00:00.

Sometimes there are pre-order goodies, like Sprite Packs and Music Packs, different forum badges etc. It might be mostly cosmetic, but it's still nice to have anyway.
Plus we're hyped to all hell and pre-ordering will feel like taking a tangible step towards making space great again.

Can someone explain to me why you would want to pre-order a game? Like, why not just buy it when it comes out? Either way, you will get it when it's out.
It is one of those questions that if asked cannot really be answered. Either you know why we want to pre-order or you don't, we cannot explain it to you anymore than why the sky is blue.

The sky is blue because of Rayleigh scattering.

Can someone explain to me why you would want to pre-order a game? Like, why not just buy it when it comes out? Either way, you will get it when it's out.

Ok. I think people preorder for different reasons. A lot of it is "I gotta have it first". It's a mentality that is widely viewed as the worst aspect of "Preorder culture". Some people Preorder to show support for a studio. Like it or not, a high number of preorders is a good thing for a company. Some people have poor spending habits. They know they want to buy the game, but are actually not responsible enough to save money. This is a common cause. I know several of my friends who have the money now, and they want the preorder because they don't know if they can hold on to the cash.

Personally, and I might be alone here, I'm an anxious person. I can actually get stressed waiting for something to happen. I'm itching for this game. The act of preordering takes the edge off. It may sound strange, but it does. Plus I heart Paradox. After hearing the Jimquisition do a convincing argument not to preorder things unless you trust the company, Paradox is the only company I tend to preorder from anymore.

Anyway, that is just my view on the matter. I'm no industry expert. Just some guy who loves video games.

Genrally I'd agree with you, but PDS is one of 2 devs that I'll preorder from. I trust them to provide a great game with hundreds of hours of gameplay and years of support. That trust is why I'm willing to front money on a PDS game, and even get the digital "collectors" edition with a whole bunch of gumph that I dont need. I want to support such a great studio.

Can you explain why not?

If you're going to buy it then why not? It is Paradox who have a proven track record, so there is no need to wait for reviews (which is the only reason I can think of why not to pre-order).

I'm against pre-ordering when there's only trailers and few gameplay snippets of the game when the pre-order goes up. Here we have quite a few hours of gameplay streamed, so I feel safe enough to pre-order if I so want. The game is looking good, the pre-order wouldn't be done with nothing but hopes and dreams. Although there's quite a bit of hopes and dreams involved in it.

I would never pre order a game. However i view Stellaris as a life style product not a game. I am pre ordering it in the same way i would have pre ordered an electric car if i had the money.

Maybe they will load one of their in-house multiplayer games and continue with it for the 2 hours? Because if it is a multiplayer game - 2 hours might not be enough to start a multiplayer game from scratch. :s
