I have to say the demo of hoi2 was what brought me into the paradox games. The Ardennes on and on 
Yes they do, the CK2 demo was considerabley different from the actual game after many patches. PDX games change constantly over time, any Stellaris demo now would almost certainly be different from actual game play in ayear from now.

Considering that, until recently, Paradox thought it was entirely reasonable, you'd have to bring more to the table than the arguments you offered so far.

Well I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you waiting for a demo. Not gonna happen.
So that means you have two choices here:
1) Live with it.
2) Don't live with it.
Me, I'm gonna buy the game as being a very long time customer I know that even if there are issues PDS will eventually get it right.

I feel like I need to explain what a discussion is, and what's we're even talking about here, but I believe that this would be a self-defeating effort.

It depends on the discussion. Right now it's a discussion on how bad people feel that they have to wait because there is no demo. I'm not a therapist so can't comfort you on how bad you feel. But it's clear there will be no demo. So facing reality you have only a couple of choices.
1) Take a risk and buy the game.
2) Buy the game on Steam and return it if you don't like it within the time period required.
3) Wait for a free play date.
4) Wait for it to go on discount.
5) Don't ever buy the game.
Thos are your options. Those are what can really be discussed. Now I can lie to you and say PDS will make a demo don't worry. Or I can present the only real options you have.
And no I prefer genocide and keeping vassals. History is very clear that is the best solution for a longer lasting peace.

Actually, Paradox games change over time and a demo that comes out at launch could be completely different and not relevant in 6 to 9 months....

The emphasis is on pre-release in the second post, and he appears to believe that a well-made post-launch demo can help.
The "study" he cites, however, is laughable. There's almost no way to do a controlled experiment*, so what did well or not without a demo is meaningless. We have to argue from first principles here.

No i did not. He wrote "buying apartment" while i wrote "renting". In addition i used apartement, car and cellphone only as examples, that consumers in general prefer to examine before they buy. In addition, i wrote that i am well aware of that software / games are a different story. You have to check whole postings, not the cut out quotes only which other ppl tend to use from original posts. See post #10, 2nd paragraph yourself and stand corrected. Thx.
Apart from beancounting like that - bottom line dont you think 90% of the forum posters would have gone nuts if todays preorder assignment included demo / early access? Well, i do, and its nothing more i say.

Somewhat different, yes, but it still gives a taste of what the game's like and whether or not it runs well on one's rig. Besides, you'll always have access to pre-dlc versions of the game as well if you don't like what the game's become since release. At least you do on EU4.

If well done, it will hook the interested testers to the game. Its a way for future buyers to check if their hardware complies with the software they intend to run. Its a way for publishers to check if a build of the game fails when run by the public on different machines / environments. Plus publishers may learn, if interest in their product is roughly as they have estimated. Some publishers, even Blizzard, have underestimated the success of their own products by like 100 times. If done in any form of early access or the like, it will ease server loads on release day and enable people with insufficient internet connections to take part in all the hype. I cant think of a single argument against a demo, other than effort being involved to provide one (which may in fact delete release or sumsuch).

sorry, i am not asking the last time a paradox game had a demo, i am asking the last time annnnnnnnnnny triple A game, or major game release had a demo? and again open beta does not count. I apologize if i wasnt clear enough in my first post

When I was a kid, I used to go with my mom to a sketchy flea market to buy games from an outdoor stand. Even those guys had a machine you could try them on (which sometimes wouldn't boot in Eastern European winter...). Better customer service in a flea market, for God's sake!
you have a 2 week period of returning the jeans but if you wear them out by playing football with them or other stuff which wears them out then they won't take them back.
