Pre-loading Stellaris

I have some good news for you, there will be no preload but if you have a smartphone and the Steam app for it, you can start a download from your phone.
In fact I just tried it for you; I opened Steam on my PC, opened the app on my phone and chose to download a game. And when I checked my PC, I saw that the download began. So you can do it if you have internet connection on the go.

I don't think the size of the game will let me do that in any timely manner. Also, it probably exceeds my data plan.
I think you misunderstood. I mean remote downloading, your phone app just tells your pc to start downloading. Your phone will only connect to steam app for this process.

IIRC Stellaris is a 4 GB download, making things easier on your home data plan.

Ah alright, that was the part I was missing then.
Oh well, I hope information about "remote installation" helped somebody else at least. It seems like you will have to wait.

Assuming they meant that the installed size is 4GB, then the download could actually be a fair bit less (installer compression can be quite strong).

Other question then: does anyone know at what time it's released? If it's midnight CET then I might just start the download before going to bed.

There may be OS and apps that allow "remote manipulation" of your computer, but it's pretty much similar to a root crack/hack. Easy to abuse if something unintended happens.
How would that even work, exactly?
You download the game, but it's not unlocked. And then you... what? Sell someone the encrypted data you downloaded? Which they then have to break the encryption on to make use of? Just to get a hold of the exact same data they could get a day or two later without going to all that trouble? And they're paying the seller how much, exactly, to buy this encrypted data in the first place? What's the point?
