Both Stellaris and EU 4 have expansions incoming... it's killing me. Thank God there is Keiserreich...
CK2 as well (which you can than import your game INTO EU4 making them essentially a mega-game with 2 DLC incoming)

On the flip side now is the time to play mods
Star Trek New Horizons in my current Stellaris fix
I don't know how people have been playing without mods!
Why spend 40 hours one week playing a game that is going to be better in, say, two months? You could do something else with the time.
Vanilla ftw.
Very true. Especially knowing that Banks will have auto-enslavement of selected species on mine/farm tiles + revamped factions systems makes you too discouraged to play the current version.Every time a major expansion or sequel is announced my motivation to play the current version drops significantly. It's worse when the release date is unknown. Has anyone else experienced this?
The reason I have no patience for mods is that I find the overwhelming majority of mods these days(for all games) fall into one of 2 categories:
1) Look at me, I put [insert random popular culture icon] into the game! I'm so clever.
2) Wahhh I'm struggling with some aspect of the game, so rather than trying to figure it out, I'll just mod the game to make it easier.
*disclaimer - not ALL mods are like this, but I'd argue most are. I just can't be bothered with them.
I'm playing Warlords Battlecry 3 instead though.
It was a godsend when I heard that it re-released on GOG and Steam.Love. That. Game.
