Every time a major expansion or sequel is announced my motivation to play the current version drops significantly. It's worse when the release date is unknown. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'd say it's quite normal.
You've seen all the new features that will be added soon, and you really want to try out all the changes.
It can be a bit demotivating then to play again with the things you're used to, and done many times before.

Yes... which is when I switch over to some of the incredible mods that have come out to rejuvenate the game. My current addiction is the Star Trek New Horizons mod, I highly recommend it.
Both Stellaris and EU 4 have expansions incoming... it's killing me. Thank God there is Keiserreich...
Literally every DLC this happens to me. But if my prediction is right then we probably won't get Utopia/Banks till early April

As I heard of the coming changes I wanted to wait until 1.5 and Banks are out...

I thnk about playing Stellaris, but the update and DLC will turn it into a new game.
Ok, why not start a campaign of Crusader Kings 2? There's so much new stuff coming into the game and the much needed adjustment to hungary and the danube river can and will break existing savegames.
Since I don't know the precise release date, I fear a stealth patch comes in to assasinate the savefiles.
The only good thing is, that I can give constructive feedback on the forum to try and give the devs good ideas.

I'm keeping myself busy with Cavemen To Cosmos ( Civ4 ), it has recently been updated.
Yeah. It's hard to motivate yourself to start a session because everytime you do something the expansion makes superfluous or play a race that would benefit from a new feature you just get so impatient for the new stuff.
I usually try to play something else. Recently bought Space Pirates and Zombies for like 3 bucks and have been having a blast. I'll likely play that until we get our xeno munching psionic jedi overlords.

Yeah, same! I sooo want to play but the current version feels so... empty now that I know all these new stuff. Especially that I always wanted to play as cyborgs/robots, and build orbital habitats... This waiting is a torture!
That said, I don't want to get a rushed, half-complete stuff, so I say just take as much time as they need. I will wait 'till it's ready. And once it's ready I will just play the s**t out of it!

False. The solution is to replace key members of the Paradox top brass with cleverly disguised players until you have enough signatures to sign the early release papers.
The highest difficulty would be to get them to actually release the DLC because as soon as they successfully infiltrate, they'll have access and would therefore immediately forget their mission in a haze of Utopia fueled glory.

That's the worst part of Paradox releasing regular dev dairies. Every time a new feature is announced I find my self wanting to play the live version less and less.
Honestly it's the opposite for me, though my friends all seem to want to play less, which is a bummer since MP is the best way to play stellaris...

Ever since I saw that you were going to be able to build ringworlds and Dyson Spheres; I stopped playing Stellaris. I mean; there's no point now is there? Whatever empire you build now is just gonna suck simply because you weren't able to litter the galaxy with megastructures. Not having a release date is the part that's been killing me more than anything else.
