FOREWORD

Good day to you!
I want to start a new analitic AAR here. I have not seen Czech AAR yet, also have not read any strategic articles for Czech. So, I'll try to do some.

The main theme that I want to describe is strategy and decision making. Possibly, there will be some historical facts and fotos, but don't kill me if not )

I'll try to be honest in my posts. So, the truth will prevail!



OPTIONS

version: HOI2DD ARM 1.3beta with last AI patch.
scenario: The Road to War (1936)

Normal, because I don't want to estimate every move.
Aggresive, because it makes the game more active.
Monthly autosave allow me to make a pause regularly and in the right moment for changing sliders, spending money for Int and Dyplomacy.
1964 allow me to play till the end, although I've not decided yet when I should finish.
Democracy can start war off. The opposite is cheating, I belive.
Full IC Take Over off. The opposite is cheating, I belive.
Tech-team take over on. This variant is I have to choose, although I think about it as a variant of slight cheating and disbalancing.



NEED YOUR HELP!

Need your advice about "Tech-team take over" option.

Although Czech have good research teams at the start (Skoda team, e.g.) I can't play all the game only with them. I plan to significantly expand the borders of Czechoslovakia and form a strong state. So, I need to improve tech teams that I have or add some new. (e.g., Czech needs naval research team for sure).

On the other hand, the moment when I annex Germany give me all German teams. Plus I'll have tech teams from other countries. It will make me even stronger as pure German in research. Obviously it will disbalance the game.
Also, it will make me hard to find useful tech team scrolling all tech teams from 6-7 (or even more) countries.

So, I need something in the middle. I need the way, that I could upgrade my research when I annex new country without disbalancing the game.

Your suggestions are welcome!

Another choice in the ultimatum event - Czechoslovakia could join Axis. Not bad idea, too.
 
Try to utilize your leaders efficiently, groups of 3 units (corps) is necessary if you want to have leaders in a large army.

Czechoslovakia gets 25 dissent for every choice it makes in sudetenland event,
if they accept, 1/4 of population is pissed off
if they refuse, 1/4 of population is pissed off (and they get steamrolled by ze germans)
if they join the axis(best choice IMO), 1/4 of population is pissed off but they survive:)
i'm starting to like the other 1/4 of population who is never pissed off:D

P.S: Iwo Jima, if you need any advice, i can help, i played a couple of games with czechoslovakia: one with the "attack early" or BCF strategy and one with the "czechoslovakia gets axis strategy"

I've played an opening twice, with Ally alliance and Axis aliance. But the event was disastrous for both.

Need advice, what should I do with a "Tech-team Take Over" option. Obviously, I need "ON", but I should limit those new techteam for balancing the game. Or, I should chose "OFF" and think about upgrading my own tech-teams after conquering my enemies.

I'm not a fan of techteam takeover and Czechoslovakia has some pretty good tech teams to start with, so I say leave it off and stick with what you have.
 
i would say leave it OFF, for now.
when you conquer germany, soviet union, etc. turn it on and annex a minor with a naval doctrine Tech team or do a little modding and mod in a naval doctrine TT

Well at that point as Mico94 said either mod in a Naval techteam and Naval doctrine techteam or breifly use techteam takeover to get one off another nation

What we have at the start of 1936:

We have baseIC=33, totalIC=35 (+5%).
Industry consumes 70 Energy, 35 Metal and 17,5 Rares
Also, Oil conversion (0.1-rate) consumes another 35 Energy, giving me 3,5Oil

It seems, we have deficit.
Energy -8
Metal -2
Rares -7,5
Oil 3.5 (but our troops use some for sure)

Right away. I have baseIC=33 and I need additional 7 baseIC for the third research slot. How to obtain?

First variant - I could build them. But it will last for 2 years.
Another variant - conquering.

With basic Foreign IC use=20% I need 35 ForeignIC(FIC) to conquer.
But I could find handle Minister of Security.
With Compassionate Gentleman FICuse=25%, 28 FIC needed
With Efficient Sociopath FICuse=30%, 24 FIC needed
With Prince of Terror FICUse=35%, 20 FIC needed
So, if we annex a couple of minors, we could get the third research slot.

I have about 150 manpower and I'll get only 12 during the 1936.
It means I could built about 16 new devisions consuming my manpower almost completly.

CONCLUSION

a) I have to generate some supplies or money and trade them for deficit resourses. So, I need good relations with some resourse-rich countries.

b) For reaching 3rd research slot I have two variants:
b1. Build 7 factories
b2. Conquer from 20 to 35 FIC, proceeding from current Minister of Security​
So, I need to make strategic decision - Peace or War?

c) Due to low manpower value, I have to built new devisions very carefuly. Also, I should minimize manpower losses in the battles. Hence, there will be no assaults, no attrition. We should use mobility, local numerical superiority and technology advance. Spearhead doctrine and Hospitals will be very useful.

when I'll write a chapter about foreign affairs, I specially note, that Czechoslovakia is totally surrounded by nazists and imperialists.
 
GOVERNMENT. OBSERVATION

Thanks to good intelligence work and some my forecasting abilities, I've collected information about most probable rulers and ministers in Czechoslovakia until 1939.



LEFT WING

There are only Commies in our Left.

It's obvious, that such a small group of people couldn't govern by our country.

Need to note also, there will be no commies in any Right government due to great distance between any Right idealogy and Stalinism. (As you should know, maximum distance=2)

So, say goodbye to Commies!



RIGHT WING

On the Right we have a full spectre of idealogies from Market Liberal, our current idealogy, to National Socialism, quickly obtaining power in Europe.

HEADS

Our current Heads want peace and prosperity to our country. Czechoslovakia is blessed by money production, but has no chance to DoW being democracy.

Also possible, that by election or coup we could get more war-like government. General Syrovy not a bad candidat, so will see.



FOREIGN MINISTER

Current foreign minister Benes not bad, but he playing with Nazis and Commies for sure. And he will have no use in negatiations with UK, France and all other democracies. One little bonus - Benes knows how to Open Negations with low cost (ON -8(-30)). Maybe we could use it. Also Benes could be helpful, if we will try to join Axis or Commintern. We should consider this.

Great Compromisers give us more flexebility, so we like them more. I should chose Osusky, because he is Social Conservative, and could save his place even under Fascism idealogy.

But my favorite is Idealogical Crusader with his ability to influence and negotiate. What a pity, Henlein is Nazi and could be useful only since 1939. Another choice Chvalkovsky. Of course, he begins to be a brute, but he knows, how to influnce too.



MINISTER OF ARMAMENT

There are a lot of good ministers here. We have the most useful starting minister - Resourse Industrialist. So, Kalfus should not be changed for a while.

It's also good to obtain Dobricek to the pool. IC+10% is a great bonus. And in pair with Basilek could form a greatest combo I know. (I wrote about it here). So, I have to go Right or Authoritarian, toward Social Conservatism.

LFC Sebrin is good enough too, specialy with my high democracy and low intervention CGN. But before 1938 I plan rise my intervention significantly and may be come to authoritarian. And... he is Nazi too.

I also wish to obtain a minister helping me with some Arm&Art research. Maybe later I'll take a chance.



MINISTER OF SECURITY

I should make immediately Victor Folanec as MofS. Crime Fighter is the best choice for small countries.

Mayby later Ivan Derer could help me with manpower. But only if I annex some countries with good manpower growth.

It's good to know, than in 1939 I could get the Prince of Terror into my pool. If by this time Czechoslovakia will rule under a half of Europe, Kopecky will be very useful.



HEAD OF INTELLIGENCE

Industrial Specialist is good choice for the begining. I also hope change him by Tech Specialist in the future.

Dismal Enigma could only playing in defence, cause I have no money and all of them will be spent onto foreign affairs and rising intelligence level.

Political Spec not bad too, if I decide to start influence another countries. But not in the close future.



CHIEF OF STAFF

I prefer to technicaly advance and get discounts, rather than sit in defence. Hope, I will not.

Kajdos is the only choice.

I would like to use Turanec too, but he is... right, Nazi.
(Did you know, there are 22% of ethnic germans in our country?)

Krejci for building and upgrading army, Jan Syrovy for economical advantage and TC-saving. Let's see, who will be the first in charge.



CHIEFS OF NAVI AND AIR FORCE

I have no Air Force now and have no even a port for Navi. So, this two positions are not important. Maybe I'll build some marines in the future. But now, planes and ships are much expensive for me.


GAME MECHANICS

You should know some facts:

1. The maximum distance between State Idealogy and any minister =2. All possible ministers within the range will appear in the pool. Any out of the range disappears outside, even if he was in charge. (In this case, handle minister will took his position)

2. For the first three ministers (Foreign, Armament and Security) max distance =1. But once he is in charge, he stay there even if the distance will become 2. But if he is discharged, he will disappear.

3. Heads could be changed by changing idealogy by 3 steps from theirs (not current idealogy of the state!). And only if there will be some candidats much closier to the current idealogy. There is impossible to change PA Heads staying in the Right. Another possibility of changing is election or coup.

4. For Right Wing the order of "steps" the following: ML-->SC-->PA-->FA-->NS. "-->" means you need move your slider toward Right or toward Authoritarian (doesn't matter). You could get NS minister only if your state PA, FA or NS. You couldn't save you ML minister, if you your state goes from PA toward FA.

5. It seems, that democratic ministers are peaceful more and often give you economical and research advantages, while authoritarian tend to be aggresive and give you industry and manpower boost.​

CONCLUSION

a) There is no need for changing our idealogy by sliders move. All useful minister are within the range or very far from us. In the long run we should consider Social Conservatism or even Paternalism as possible idealogy. This could give us some good ministers.

b) All information about possible and useful ministers is obtained.

c) Some changings are obvious, some will be considered later, after further examination. Strategic decision about possible wars and alliances is needed. Some foreign ministers will be more useful in peace, some - at war.

Regarding Tech team takeover -- I've had a couple of fun games where I leave it off, but after I annex a nation I go into the files and copy one tech team from the annexed nation into my save game file. That seemed pretty reasonable to me, that you get some of the research capability from a conquered nation, just as you get some of the industrial and manpower capability from a conquered nation. And it forces some hard choices on you, so that's fun, too.

But at the start we have a problem - we are peaceful democracy, and we need very-very-very strong arguments to DoW. (high belligerence is needed)

So, economics & politics first, and warfare follows behind.

Good idea. Did you penalize your new teams? I think about decreasing their skills.

I also think about some method, approach, how could I chose tech team and how many teams could be obtained from the annexed country. May be it should be tied with Victory Points?

Also, I think about differentiation amongst teams (like Nizhny Tagil Factory) and persons (like Banach).
 
Nah, I didn't penalize them for skill level. The penalty was you only got to choose one team per nation. If you want another tech team, go annex another nation. I think you'll find after you annex a country or three, that you really don't need another tech team that closely resembles one that you've already got, so the choices become more clear.

Individual or corporation -- well, they all represent teams of researchers, so I didn't worry about that, either. Rationalize it as your intelligence agents being able to kidnap and coerce scientists, rescuing them from fascism, bribing them with unlimited funds, whatever you want.
